Quite a poignant song. Written from a fathers perspective about a son who has been murdered. Reading the lyrics makes me think of Glasweigan schoolboy Kriss Donald murdered on his way home by an Asian gang in 2003 - the tribute to him was flowers and football tops (and scarfs). |

Great tune, pretty obvious meaning, and a damn catchy chorus. Bought their album last week and its packed with fantastic tunes that will have you singing along but also agreeing with his cynicism of the modern world.
Song itself paints a rather bleak view of modern Britain - despite how shite it can be, you have to work to survive. Funny that these guys are only 18/19, doubt they'll have been working for long! |

Originally i thought the song was about a guy who wasnt allowed to see his daughter, and the pain he suffered from not being able to see her. But having seen the video, its pretty clear, a guy who loves a girl but knows he will never be with her - story of my life. |

I think it refers to Ned/Chav culture in todays Britain. They do what they want, they are "easily swayed", papers like the Sun, the NOTW make them even more ignorant. They act like muppets and will play the hardman to impress their friends, but if their friends werent there to back them up, they would get the shit beaten out of them. |

Great song. I see Chris Martin describing a girl that he took for granted, they then split and he soon realised he had been acting the fool and was desperate for her back. It fits so well into "The Last Kiss" if anyone has seen it. |

This an amazing song. I first heard the song 2 years ago before i went to Uni, i was scared and the song was easily identifiable with, unfortunately things havent gone well and the song is as powerful as ever. IMO it stands for someone who is lost, confused, neglected, with uneasy thoughts into the future. |

Despite not being a Hibbee, i quite like this song, its about the Highland Clearances and the dream of going to America/Canada, or at least Scottish migration there. Coincidentally, i am currently writing an essay on Scottish emigration during the 18th and 19th centuries! |

| Radiohead – Subterranean Homesick Alien Lyrics

The song is about how Thom Yorke (lead singer) is frustrated, with life and everything around him. He addresses alien abduction, as a form of escape, a literal escape, and thinks that he would see the world in a bigger picture.
One of my favourite radiohead songs. |

This song is brilliantly poetic, some of the lyrics really hit home, almost as if they were written for me. "I know its over, and it never really began, but in my heart is was so real", my favourite Smiths lyric, very powerful, one which, again, i can relate with. |

This is my favourite song on "Meat Is Murder", the lyrics are simple and repetitive but he sings in a more aggressive tone than usual which i find relates to the topic, as those above have explained. Great bassline and guitar tune, you almost feel that Marr and Rourke were given permission to take a lead on a song and this was their effort. |

The thing i love about The Smiths is Morrissey doesnt hold back, and shows great honesty. This song itelf is catchy, but it describes how Morrissey fancied a girl, although is too shy to do anything about it, and metaphorically speaking, he can only an event as horrific as a bomb (the song was written during the Cold War), as the only way they will be together. Of course, there are different ways of looking at the song, one in which i can relate to infact, shyness is a horrible thing to try and remove, and Morrissey shows his frustration in the lyric "but shyness can stop you from doing all the things in life you'd like to".
