Funny now that Im reading what others think this song is about. I thought it was about a little monkey playing the bongo who is looked down upon by others and seen as worthless, but he doesnt let them affect him because he likes where he is and what hes doing and he feels like a "king without a crown" I think it represents all the people out there who are in the same situation except to give it a little twist, its from a monkey's point of view...I dont know...thats what I thought =o) |

Ive been listening to this song over and over. Its so beautiful and mysterious--Im absolutely puzzled about what it may be about though. For some reason, I think someone who died in the past has come back and is haunting him from the grave. Not a scary, spooky kinda thing though. This spirit is sort of leading him somewhere where he can feel free and rid his mind of anxieties and depression. I think the cold wind refers to the spirit like supposidly the air gets brisker and colder in certain areas when they're is a spirit to be felt. So the cold wind he is listening to could be the guidance of this spirit leading him driving with him down the road of renewal. I keep saying spirit, it could be someone he knew who had died, may have been buried in San Francisco so to pay his respects hes asking those looking for him to lay flowers on the grave. I have more to say but I dont know how to explain it. wow, im obsessed with analyzing the lyrics ;] |

I think hes talking about his true love and how she's fading away from him, whether it may be shes dying or they just naturally drifted away from each other. He's talking about how life can be so dull and meaningless without love. And how sometimes we can get so caught up in the fakeness and vanity of the world we forget the true happiness of life is to love and be loved. Whoever she is, he truly adores her and promises that no matter what hardships he faces, he will stay strong for the both of them. |

Aside from the obvious interpretation, I think this song is what the world is coming to when everyones head is filled with "selfish pride", and how people are so afraid of losing everyday, petty things, we may forget we're losing the greatest thing of all: ourselves. The fight hes taking about is a fight between humbleness and vanity. When he says
"And if it all works out, There won't be a doubt at all
You're heading for the boiling water" He means if he overcomes the other guy who represents the greed and vanity of the world, there could be a positive outcome for everyone. But if in the worst case scenario if the other guy wins, he instead says"we're heading for the boiling water" as in everyone and everything, good and evil. |

To me she's this innocent, carefree girl who enjoys a life with no real responsibilities or distrurbances. Then in the blink of an eye or a "lightening bolt" so quick, Alice, someone she loved and cared for very dearly (probably a family member because she says her family tree is losing all its leaves) dies and this girl is left to fend for herself. Shes "crashing towards the drivers seat" almost forced to take the wheel of her life and control it herself for the first time. Although shes been learning to drive aka become independent her whole life, shes always had someone there to be her support system and something she can lean on, but now she must be on her own. I love this song, we all can relate in some way. |

I listen to this song whenever Im on the subway going into the city (nyc that is :) She really got the whole feeling of being in the city down to the core. Its basically about what shes saying: someone feeling down and needing something to lift their spirits. To me it sounds like hes singing to the girl he is engaged to in the beginning and he's at his bachelor party. He's unsure whether or not he is really in love with her and is curious to know if there is someone else out there who he'd rather be with. He sees this seductive woman aka the stripper at the strip club and for a moment hes like a little boy who sees this sexy older woman and is completely enthralled and turned on by her sexiness. She seems like someone who would be able to fulfill all his sexual fantasies and he's praying for "love in a lapdance" but soon realizes that this isnt the love he's looking for, he wants something more innocent and sweet, which is what he had the whole time. He learned it the hard way by paying with his "naivety". Thats what I got from it...Sorry I probed so deep into a Panic! at the Disco song. :) |

I think hes talking about this girl he's secretly lusting after and he wants her, but at the same time, he'd rather love her from afar to avoid potential heartbreak. Its kinda like people who'd rather have a crush on someone from a safe distance than get too close to protect themselves. When he says "The day you move, Im probably gonna explode" I think this symbolizes that if she ever notices him and tries to get to know him, he wont know what to do and it will ruin whatever little bit of a connection they have. and if "nobody moves, nobodys gonna get hurt" Its better to leave things as they are. |
