In general, before I knew there was a theme or story to the album, this song made me think of some kind of intense, heavy decision or a traumatic event that changes you or the way you see the world from there on out - suicide, murder, abortion, child birth, rape. It did also make me think a specific event: A few days before buying "Oceanic" I was watching a clip from one of Henry Rollins' spoken words shows on YouTube. In this clip he talks about, in excruciating detail, about witnessing his friend Joe Cole's murder. How he made it through that show without breaking down crying is beyond me. | Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – A Hymn to the Morning Star Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| With the theme of the album being that Man is inherently evil and destructive, maybe this song is saying that we've all let evil into our hearts. | |
| Gorillaz – Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song is about apathy, and not being aware of the evils of the world. The Happyfolk automatically assuming the best in people, so when Strangefolk came in and started doing their evil deeds they went unnoticed because Happyfolk think all people are as good-natured as they are. It's a bit pessimistic but I think you have to find the balance: don't ALWAYS assume the worst in people, but don't trick yourself into thinking that evil isn't out there. Always be vigilant, so when it spits in your face you know what to do. On the other hand, keeping in with the somewhat political/social commentary tone of the album, I could see Damon maybe directing this song at people who don't educate themselves on bad things happening in other parts of the world, and don't look beyond the scope of their own lives. As long as it doesn't inconvenience them, it doesn't matter. Or maybe even people who don't educate themselves politically, and then are surprised when their country goes straight to hell. |

| Peeping Tom – Don't Even Trip Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I was just thinking that because lately i've been reading on various forums from people talking about rumors surrounding the breakup of Bungle and some are who supposedly close to some of the members. The most common reason that came up was some pretty serious fights between Mike and Trey. | |
| Faith No More – Jizzlobber Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If the character in the song is a rapist then "Bars in the womb" could mean he did so much damage to a woman through his rape that her uterus is damaged and she can't ever have children. | |
| Mushroomhead – Xeroxed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I'm getting sick of this whole "slipknot stole the masks from mushroomhead" thing. That may or may not be the case, but Mr. Bungle did the masks and costumes before EITHER of them. Numerous bands (including slipknot and mushroomhead) claim Bungle as an influence, but I'd like to see them get at least a fraction the credit they deserve. | |

| Anyone think this could be directed towards Trey Spruance? | |
| Peeping Tom – Don't Even Trip Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The character had a falling out with his dad (or friend), tries to rationalize what happened and why, and tries to make peace. | |
| Faith No More – Epic Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"If you have it, you don't need it. If you need it, you don't have it. If you have it, you need more of it. If you have more of it, you don't need less of it. You need it to get it. And you certainly need it to get more of it. But if you don't already have it to begin with you can't get any of it to get started, which means you really have no idea how to get it in the first place, do you? You can share it, sure. You can even stockpile it if you'd like, but you can't fake it. Wanting it, needing it, wishing for it. The point is: if you've never had any of it...ever...people just seem to know." (''Experience is everything - Old Spice'' shows on screen) This new commercial for Old Spice starring Bruce Campbell made me think of all the "it"s in this song. |
