The Fray – You Found Me Lyrics 16 years ago
i posted this as a reply but i thought i'd post it as a comment too :)

grar i agree with you mate, i dislike it when people assume the whole thing is about god,
but i also agree with kdawg, about how many meanings makes for a great song. hmmm.

point is, i dont think the whole song IS about god. maybe he might have kept the whole god idea in mind while lyric-writing, and made sure all of the meanings were left open and indistinct enough to still aply to the god idea, i also think that he had in mind a HUMAN relationship when he was writing the song, which was what was at the forefront of his mind.
he's lost someone, he has done something very stupid, either slitting his wrists or overdosing, ["surrounded surrounded" either by his blood or pills] and now the other person has finally realised and come to find him, except it's too late, and now there is all of this regret, which all falls into place in the song so well.
i think if the song was about god it wouldnt have so much regret in it, and the idea of it being too late ["just a little late"] because when god finds people it's always in time. altho you could argue with that, if you're looking from a religious point of view god DOES always find people in time, because even if its when they die, there's still the afterlife of heaven or whatever and shiz.
point is i think it is not about god, because if it was there wouldnt be so much pain, regret and bitterness in the song, because god 'finding' someone would never be too late.

love this song, love this site :)

you are amazing. your interpretation is amazing. this song is amazing too, and you really bring out its amazingness :D

the way you look at it is REALLY.. just.. WOW :O it actually makes a lot of sense, although i dont know if that is actually the way whats-his-name intended to write the song, but if he did he was one REALLY REALLY smart and 'deep'[hate using that word sounds so cheesy XD] guy :)

thank you for sharing this interpretation, it is a really amazing one :)

and dont apologise to those who dont like your christian view of the song! the whole point of this site is that everyone can share their views and shouldnt have to defend them or prove them, if someone doesnt like it then they can keep that to themselves, you've been very considerate in your view-sharing :)

I completely agree. Mothra was taking the stand of 'i'm allowed to state my opinion, you're the one who's being close-minded' but he was dissing everyone's opinions, and bashing the band, song and fans for no reason.
hypocrite.
i HATE it when people do that.

love this song tho, and i've posted WAAAY too many comments on it :)

i think they use 'was' because he lost her, when he was young, and when he's old he still regrets it and thinks how the world WAS beautiful when he was with her, but.. it isn't anymore.

yeah, i really like that interpretation, that maybe whatever the bad thing was, killed her [drugs probably, imo]. that could fit in with the whole polaris/north star thing, as he's looking up to the sky remembering her, perhaps with the whole cheesy her-looking-down-on-him thing. that would mean the "love goes anywhere... darkest time..." lines fit beautifully.

wow this song is so sad.

but i love it.

"real sense of loneliness"... wow, that's an amazing way to describe this song. i love this song, and that description is perfect.

dont apologise for taking up room, otherwise i'm doomed XD
i cant say i agree with all your ideas, just generally i dont think the song is based on jim's wife [jim has a wife?].
i think the lines "When you go, I'll let you be, but you're killing everything in me" & "I'm done" & "I feel that when I'm old, I'll look at you and know, the world was beautiful." show more of a loss, a significant and long-term one, then just leaving his wife and worrying about it. something more permanent and painful, like [i dont believe this is from jim's viewpoint if he's married] the guy having to give up completely on the girl.
Also i dont think he'd say something as vulgar as telling his wife to get on her knees, in a song especially :S if thats what you mean.
All in all i do like some of your ideas, they're well thought out :) but i'm leaning more towards the drugs storyline or the lover lost.

i really like your take on the standing still and sugar pill lines, that they wouldn't be content with their lives if they were apart.
but at the last bit, i think it's more like he's leaving her [probably more metaphorical, perhaps having chased her to another city/place, and now he's going back home], after having finally given up, than her leaving him.

okay, basically, there is WAY too much to say on this song.. it really is music, in the full sense of the word. thought-provoking, emotion-evoking, and all that. i love it to bits, hence, perhaps, why i have so much to say about it :P
however, writing out my views is exhausting, and since i've already wrote them elsewhere in the form of replies i decided to paste them all together in this chunk of a comment!
i apologise in advance for its ridiculous length! XD

"@itsalwaysyou
it IS interesting, since even if you're talking about what will happen in the future you can say 'is'. he could have said "i'll look at you and know the world is beautiful", but he doesn't. this ties in with what i think about the song, if you read the comment i'm going to post a bit further down.."

"no, according to most other users plus the internet in general, gare means 'station' not 'park'. Although i think you're right, its referring to the specific place Gare du Nord, the huge station in Paris."

"wow, it just struck me.. the sugar pill line, i mean.
However, it kinda only confuses me more, since it could fit so well in two meanings of the song.
to start, it could fit in with the whole just-doing-what-you're-doing idea, like, either she doesn't want to take a risk and take a chance and be with him, or that she doesn't know about him liking her, like someone mentioned on the page of comments before this one.
however, it fits with the other meaning too.. that the song is all about drugs and the word 'pill' is less metaphorical and more literal. I kinda like this interpretation, actually, that 'sugar pill' is said because the drugs are like a pacifier.. the person feels like they need them in order to live, but the singer's questioning this 'need' to try and make the addict realise."

and because i love the interpretation so much [as stated above ^] i'll paste that too!
"
I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere else (maybe in the comments for another song) but this really could be about someone who is depressed and on medication...
"I've always been afraid" - the narrator is afraid of his partner's condition, and he hasn't always dealt with it well ("I know I've made mistakes")
"Please answer the door" - a reference to the times that the partner is too lost in their depression to be aware of the narrator's existence.
"In your darkest time, it's just enough to know it's there" - in the depths of the depression, the knowledge of the love they have is only just enough to keep them sane
"When you go, I'll let you be/But you're kill everything in me" - when his partner spirals out of control the narrator knows he will have to let it happen but it will kill him to see them like that
"Whisper what I need/Something pretty" - the narrator wants his partner to be "pretty" i.e. happy/normal for him. The next 3 lines could be ironic or bitter, I am not sure.
"Are you happy where you're standing still?/Do you really want the sugar pill?" - this is fairly obvious, the depression is keeping his partner "standing still" and the drugs are not a cure, they're just a "sugar pill"
It's not an interpretation that covers every single lyric in the song...but I feel that the bitter, almost sinister tone to the verses justifies this reading. I'm not sure this is what I really think the song's about but it's one interpretation and one thing's for sure, judging by the lyrics and music of the verses, this is definitely not a happy song!

Panic! at the Disco – Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics 19 years ago
from what i gather, some people see it as the "virgin" slept with the lawyer AND the constable. i see it more as...
for a start, it says virgin so you think she is innocent because she has jst got caught up in the nasty ol' business world and forced into this. i mean, she even has rosary tucked into her lingerie! but she been persuaded into it... jst one night and her career will be on the move. btw, i luv elizabell887's idea that she is a "virgin" not coz she's actually a virgin, but has really only ever had sex, never made love. oh, and while i'm at it, youdigthis's thing about how the chorus is mocking how unintimate sex has become is cool, too. neways, so you think she's innocent and the lawyer's the bad guy, and the wife's at the home, forced to stay with the cheating bastard b/c she needs his money despite the "moonlighting", his, um, DIFFERENT occupation of sleeping with whoever he chooses.
the constable has big plans for the "virgin". he's gonna nail them both for, yno, the whole prostitution thing.
thats the thing with the "purse of a different kind". the wife was not willing to turn a blind eye. she arranged to meet the constable, and when he arrived, she "accidentally" spilt all this stuff on the floor. as the constable went to pick it up, he "happened" to notice the little black book of appointents and clientele, in which he sees the appointment with the "virgin". as it says in the lines:

"There was a terrible crash
Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag
And held a "purse" of a different kind
Along with the people inside"

see, the people inside were the clientelle and what not. so he busts the lawyer and the virgin, who jst made a bad decision:
"It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses"
although it is debatable whether is is best guesses or bad guesses, the sleeping roaches is refering to the blackmailing, sleezy lawyer the "virgin" slept with and the bad guesses refers to how it was a bad decision and she gone done for it.

neways, this is jst my opinion. my fingers hurt. sorry if i'm very wrong, i'm new to this and although i like p!atd i am not fully informed about them. although i do know that they are DEFINITELY the BEST band i hav EVER heard. thank you for listening, this is news at ten. and yes, i am random. :DDDDD
