come on guys, you're thinking too hard. that's what "shameful metaphors" is about, misinterpreting lyrics. "Letter from a thief"'s lyrics are mix and match just like all Chevelle's other songs. They're my favoritest band ever, if I had to put in my own words.
As for the interpretation, none is needed. The lines outside of the chorus are all exaggerates for the meaning to this song. Just examples of how this "personal experience" makes Pete feel, hence, "medicating through it all". The chorus sums it all up, this song is all inspired by their stuff getting stolen, but it can be taken many different ways. I'm sure they meant along the lines that "if you ever enter my mind, stay there, you'll live, defend it off, or fool them all" means that everyone has something in their life they feel they live for and strive for every day, and "if you ever enter my mind" then you or this object is taking place of what I've been trying to do all my life. Like how something else completely takes over your life and you have no will to do anything for what you used to believe in.
I'm making this harder than it has to be. Say you're in a relationship for almost 2 years. Completely love the girl. Before you dated her, you loved writing music, she took over your life, and you left music. Hope I got my message across to you. They got their gear stolen and they felt helpless.
When someone enters your mind, they're able to take your dreams away and you have no control over it. You can't defend off they're ability to know you, and they can defend off your dreams. Don't let someone take your dreams away. This song gives me bone-chills. |

this has got to be my favorite song ever...from my favorite band.
Ok so, here's what i've been thinking. He's in love with someone obviously and this person is actually noticing him. And when he sleeps at night, he has dreams about the person and him together, and he doesn't want to wake up. I've experienced something like this so many times. And he has to keep dreaming, yada, yada, yada. Anyway, if you've seen the video, you might know where i'm coming from, but I thought of this before I ever saw the video. It just makes me kinda sad everytime I hear it. And no matter how old this song gets, or is, it'll always be my favorite. |
