Haha, Max is so cool. The Oedipal Complex bit is about his habit of dating or being attracted to girls that remind him of his mother. Pretty common in guys, actually. And then he says, ok, it's not awkward...the traditional love song stuff is coming now... "we should make a verbal agreement to only kiss each other" ...or not. wouldn't have it any other way with Say Anything, though. This song is great. |

| Peter, Paul and Mary – Puff (The Magic Dragon) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i just read in the bathroom book the real meaning behind this song. the "peter" in "peter, paul, and mary" wrote the music for a poem his roomate's friend wrote. the guy who wrote the song wrote it as a freshman at Cornell when he realized how hard growing up was. he left the poem at peter's house and then the group incorporated it into their set. Peter (Peter Yarrow) actually hunted down the original writer, named Lenny Lipton, to make sure he got credit, and all four say its not about drugs. Lipton said, "I can tell you that at Cornell in 1959, NO ONE smoked grass" | |

| Boys Night Out – Dying Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| underoath, the "song in his head" is what distracts him from his guilt, his way of dealing with what he did. in fact, this "symphony" is the murdering of his friends and family. He hopes to finish the song with the murder of the doctor but does not have enough strength. | |
| Gatsbys American Dream – Speaker For The Dead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i feel like everyone's right on this one. Pompeii is an actual occurence, but its such a metaphor for what happens when one becomes too proud. The album is titled "volcano" which i think is a metaphor for human emotion, which can just explode. hence the songs about LotF, another perfect example of human nature's explosiveness. And this song is about the ash left behind after the violence, the explosiveness. Maybe a stretch, and a lot of stuff in one song, but that's what i got. | |

i think when gerard says "what you've got under your shirt" he's not talking about guns like school shootings. i think he means what you've got on the inside, what you'll become. Like if gerard was picked on as a kid, now those kids are feeling kind of stupid because of where he is now. |

yeah i think jesse used to be really really conceited and whatnot, but i think he's actually changing a little. the first time i saw brand new, it was their second concert after their long break from touring and it wasn't that great. the second time was better, but the last time i saw them, two weeks ago, it was amazing. jesse-and the rest of the band-was really interacting with the crowd and the other bands very very well. and we don't love jesse because of his voice, we love him for his music/lyrics. |

for some reason, i got the idea that this song was about resisting the temptation of lust in order to remain pure. "I could have sworn that I saw you knee-bent..." the singer comments on how he saw his gf praying, but now she wants to have sex. "I've got to crucify myself..."if he wants to believe what she is saying about it being ok to do it, he'd have to crucify himself (aka, repent of his sin). He has to obey all the promises he made when he became a Christian. "I've got to make my bed..." he says that he has to make his bed (get married) if he's gonna lay with her (have sex). because a disaster is a disaster no matter how you spin the act of sex. "Cause I confide in wolves at night..." the "wolves" that he confides in are the falsefaced temptations of earthy pleasures. in order to resist them, he must make his baby girl lonely. well that's what i thought. |

| Fall Out Boy – Hum Hallelujah Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Pete tried to commit suicide to the song "hallelujah," like some people said here. I especially like the line, "I sing the blues and I swallow them too." Like the blue pills. | |

i think this song is about any radical believers. islam, jew, christians...all their religions ("books") teach them to love. but to some, their actual religion is overshadowed by their hate. they only "carry the torch" of their religion because they want to burn things down, rather than illuminate, as they're taught. one of the album's main themes is religion (its called "the devil and god are raging inside of me"), so that's why i interpreted this song this way. |
