I had a psychedelic experience while listening to this song in bed. I was fairly stoned trying to sleep, kind of dozing in and out of consciousness, when I was suddenly transported to what I can only describe as another universe.. There was a large bright white asain looking deity staring at me with some kind of geometric patterened machine type evovling structure behind him. I was there for maybe 45 seconds when I "woke up" out of this trance. One thing I noticed after several days of trying to visit this world again. I realised that once I slipped into this alternate world my right eye opened but my left eye stayed shut. I guess this is why I was seeing things. |

I agree with Clown137 but I would like to elaborate more. To me the song is in Mother Earths("my blood is bruised and borrowed" meaning oil to me) point of view talking to humans about misusing it's resources, whether they be natural resources or psychedelics. It's like the Earth is saying "hey take everything you possibly can and fuckin leave me be, because you're destroying everything natural on the planet" For some reason I think the song is also about smoking DMT. |

| I think it was written after smoking Salvia Divinorum. Every time I've smoked it I've wondered if this life here is really what is true. I actually think whomever wrote it is talking to the drug asking it if it's really a tool to another existance an existance that can be manipulated by yourself(like I myself have found myself asking this plant after hallucinating on it) or if it's just showing him that this life cannot be controlled no matter how hard he tries and to just let things be and do what's most important, love yourself no matter how fucked things get. | |

To me the author of this song wrote it in an amazing view point. I believe the song is the authors second "dream state" conscienciousness telling it's waking conscience "these are a few of my favorite things" because I have all kinds of answers inside me that you need to know . And in order to reach them you need to "kill" your original self and "bring on the alien" which would be your new self. The "drugs" listed in the songs are just ways to bring on the death/life rebirth which Mudvayne revolves around. I've come to this conclusion because I realized that when I took mushrooms (Psilocybin) the first time as soon as I started trypping I thought I had died. In essence I actually had died because from that day on I was never the same again hence I had killed my old being and brought on a newer "alien" form of myself I didn't even know existed. To all that wrote "it's about drugs" this song is NOT about "drugs" and "drugs" only. Yes they may mention them but Mudvayne is way to deep of a band to write something of that nature. Listen to "Monolith" "Mutatis Mutandis" and "Recombinant Resurgence" instead of skipping over them. Open your mind for fucks sake. You might learn something. |

I agree with sporgalish but differ in thought process. I've come to believe (from my experiences with Salvia Divinorum) that the Universe isn't constantly being "technically" destroyed but constantly being folded upon itself, like an enormous rolodex or something, and eventually over time it returns to the beginning. But everytime it gets back to the starting point it's slightly distorted and/or different because it's worn out from the pressure of itself being compacted upon itself. OK now I've some how confused myself which is understandable because Salvia creates some of the most amazing but confusing thoughts I've ever comprehended. |

Quick explanation of The Great Timestrream Bifurcation. When Christ was born a parallel world sprang into existance with Christ never being born. This having happened Christianity never came into existance. So the Roman civilization never becomes destroyed. They hook up with the Mayans and trade knowledge. Eventually leading to a world that is 1200 years in advance of ours. They become aware of us through the use of psychedelics and notice that releases of hard radiation effect both worlds. So in 2012 they are supposed to come to our planet and either enlighten us or take us away into a new life that cannot be fathomed. |

First of all I have to say that drshock is a complete moron. Mudvayne are not fucking rappers or some shit just trying to sound cool. With that being said I mainly agree with what most people's ideas are on the song. It's definitly referencing the Tree of Life BUT I also believe it has an underlying connection with Terrence Mckenna's Great Timestream Bifurcation. Also the line "Portal sits deep within the eye" could be referencing our Third Eye aka The Pineal Gland(which is in the center of our brain) in which DMT is produced. And if you know anything about DMT it evedently shows you "the creators" but I have not yet smoked it, so I'm not 100% positive. |

That interpretation came to me at the tail-end of my first ever acid trip that lasted 14 hours. I felt as if I was sitting down in "heaven" ease dropping on a conversation between "God" and Christ. But it was Christ before he was born to Mary(does that make sense?) I'm guessing Chad might have had a similar experience. All hope is not lost though. Man-kind can save ourselves if we open our minds. A better relationship and understanding of our Mother Earth is the key to our survival. |

To me the song is written in 2 different thought forms. I think it goes from "Jesus" talking to Humanity, then "God" talking to "Jesus" and it goes back and forth. It seems to me that Chad was trying to convey that "God" don't want to try and save us anymore because humanity fucked things up. He's telling Christ that his efforts are futile and humans are going to keep on fucking things up for themselves (get off the cross and save yourself). Or maybe "God" was pissed at "Jesus" for trying to save everyone. But just as Mudvayne themselves say "Solve Et Coagula". "God" had given up on humanity because they didn't even believe in his own son. Christ didn't die for our sins he died because of them and it's been a "long time"(The reason that's in quotes is because time is man made and it probably doesn't exist) coming but the crucifixion of Christ in essense was The Beginning of All Things to End. I'm not a religious person but I have some kind of "faith" instilled in me somehow. But how many parents(or as I call them "mini Gods")have children and have absolutly no clue how to raise them? "God" didn't know what the fuck he was doing when and if he created us(assuming "God" knew that "humans" would eventually evolve into what we are now) and to me "God" is pissed because "it" created this beautiful world and we were fucking it up.
