I haven't looked at the whole text, but I might have an answer to the enigmatic "fish stone". In Buddhism there are eight auspicious symbols. These may be carved on stones that you can carry with you or leave in sacred places. I've seen a stone with the two fishes that symbolize happiness - as they have complete freedom in water. Within Buddhism the two fishes also symbolizes that living beings who practice the dharma need have no fear to drown in the ocean of suffering. This explains why the fish stones reminds the "I" to know that he's glad. Also, in China the kite is a symbol of good luck (and maybe hope). I love the two parts of the song - Buffalo Springfield meets Nick Drake. |
