| Ghost – Year Zero Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
@[tony009:3688] hahahahahahaha I think this band is heavy on the show aspect in their music, but really there music is kind of pop-stoner-metal with some goth and lots of SATAN. but seriously this whole idea of "hail Satan" should start to resonate and make people question the whole outdated christian notion of satan, which in Judaism (where MOST of the name comes from) the idea of "THE satan" (in the hebrew there is always the article "the" attached to the name "satan" ) is different. In general I think we should question what we are taught as evil and what we are taught as good. Anyways GHOST ROCK !!!!! \m/ ( > < ) \m/ |

| Deftones – Digital Bath Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| oh shit,,,you just CRACKED ME UP!!!! | |
| Soundgarden – Mind Riot Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Actually I heard Cornell once in a solo concert talk about this song and he said it was written around the time of the Gulf War (1991). That explains the line: "Now somebody is talking about a Third world war And the police said this was normal control" |
|
| Soundgarden – Mind Riot Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| It is cool, but on the other hand it's kind of uncool because if I want to play this song I have to tune all of my strings to E ...fuck that. | |
| Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| For your information, "Jehovah" is a christian invention, taken from the tettragramation YHWH - which cannot be pronounced. Notice that no jew ever speaks of "Jehovah", | |
| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Duppy Conqueror Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| sounds about right...thanx! | |
| Portishead – Strangers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| i totally thought that as well | |
| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Duppy Conqueror Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"The bars could not hold me, Words could not control me. They try to keep me down, But Jah put I around." ..... "Don't try to hold me up, on this bridge now, I've got to reach Mount Zion. So if you have bull-bucka, let me tell you, I'm a duppy conqueror " Anybody know what "me de pon street again" means? Or " bull-bucka"..? |
|
| Snow – Informer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| "A licky boom boom down" - I once heard somewhere that this phrase actually has a meaning. Could the canadian-raggae guy who for some reason has a jamaican accent actually have written down something not completely meaningless... Yeah, I like this song...I mean come on, its halarious! | |
| Ugly Casanova – Parasites Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The song talks about death. Instead of beautiful and magical, parasites start eating your brain. And god and satan both appear and all the angels/devils know something that we dont. And I agree with synergistic. | |
| John Denver – Rocky Mountain High Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high Rocky Mountain high was john denver a stoner? |
|
| Sufjan Stevens – Super Sexy Woman Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"She is super duper smart I like her for her mind She'll shoot a super fart The deadly silent kind She's got superhuman lips, for super suction She's got superpower hips, for super reproduction" Thank you Sufjan for making me laugh out loud!!! |
|
| Pearl Jam – Garden Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It seems obvious to me that "garden of stone" is a metaphor for a graveyard. This song is about death and being taken but not wanting to go. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Cherub Rock Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Agent 23 - Yes, I agree. It may not literally about prostitution but Id say its about being a whore/sell out vs. being real (hipsters)... possibly in the music bussiness as many here have pointed out. | |
| Tool – Right in Two Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
hey isnt it funny how all these religion ads started popping up? Guys the truth is (i believe) that although maynard probably despises organized religion, especially christianity (opiatE) , he was brought up as a christian and his mother had just died or was on her death bed. The band has been spiritual before - "merkava" is taken from kabbalah (judaism), so its not surprising that he should mention angels and "father" in an album dedicated to his mother. |
|
| Elliott Smith – A Fond Farewell Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is a happy song! he is saying goodbye to his old self! | |
| Elliott Smith – The Last Hour Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| At first the chord progression was what got me with this song but the lyrics are just as beauitiful. "Make it over" - could mean a few things - such as "make it end" or "come over"...How does he mend together those smooth chord changes over such thoughtful lyrics..? | |
| John Frusciante – The Will to Death Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"Have you put them aside Your crazy thoughts and dreams No they're a part of me And they all mean one thing" That verse keeps is what keeps me going every day. I believe a "will to death" is the concept of living life to the fullest, where death is always "one step away". The last verse about the cars makes the analogy that people that pass you by at high speed in life - are like cars that don't notice a thing but the road. This verse dabbles a bit on relativity. |
|
| Modest Mouse – Fire It Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
this song has a few beatiful phrases lyrically and musically...old school "simple" songs like "Trailer Trash".. "Oh we ate all of the oranges off the navels of our lovers grabbed a book and read the cover" you gotta admit its humorous..:) |
|
| Elliott Smith – Last Call Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| When I feel shitty - this song speaks to me. I'm so sick of it, sick of it.... | |
| Green Day – Jesus of Suburbia Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Why don't they write more songs like this? While I was listening to "american Idiot" for the first time I couldn't help but notice that this was the only song that sounds kind of "punk-progressive". The song works (as evidenced by the 11 pages of praise on this site) , so why not use it as a stepping stone....? | |
| Pearl Jam – Given to Fly Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| So many songs share similar chord progressions that to say that the song is stolen from Zeppelin is ridiculous. The guitar riffs do not sound similar, and besides, Going to California is played in a DADGBD tunig whereas Given to fly is in standard. In any case, as for the lyrics - Jesus ?!? Hell Fuck NO. Thats not Eddie's style. He doesn't go there. He's talking about himself, same as Alive, same as Black, etc. | |
| Tom Petty – Free Fallin' Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| When I was growing up in LA, we always thought that this song was kind of like a national anthem for the valley (San Fernando valley). It's about being a teenager and growing up in the valley, and falling in and out of love. | |
| Afghan Whigs – 66 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song sounds like it's about a guy who is in love with and manipulating a girl by giving her drugs in exchange for sex. It's always about some fucked up shit with Dulli. Saw the Twilight Singers in Tel Aviv - Fucking OFF THE HOOK!!! | |
| Afghan Whigs – Crime Scene Part One Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Awesome song about a guy going to commit a crime. Or has it already been commited? | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Siddhartha Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yes this song is classic. And I'll bet it has more to do with Hesse's novel than Buddhism. I was glad to hear this song because it gave me the feeling that Jerry is also a fan of Hesse, like myself. | |
| Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It seems to me like he's just shouting "hey" in the chorus. | |
| Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is pure genius. To anyone who has never read Bukowski I highly recommend - but not for the faint of heart. As for the whole "sell out" argument - I don't believe there is such a thing. Not since Nirvana changed everything with "Nevermind". Besides, Brock has remained true to his writing style. | |
| Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think this song is romantic and tragic at the same time. The same two lines are used to start and to finish the song which in my opinion means that that is the ultimate jist of the song. The chorus does imply a couple reminiscing about love and there now lost child. What a beautiful song. |
|
| Modest Mouse – Trailer Trash Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The first Modest Mouse song I ever heard and still my favorite. This song is about - you guessed it - Isaac - who grew up in a trailer and probably had quite a hard time in high school. | |
| Cat Stevens – The Wind Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is incredible! Short and to the point. BTW - Philosophy - you are way off. Early muslims were ordered by Muhammed to slaughter the jews who were then living in Saudi Arabia. Look it up dude. |
|
| Neil Young – Campaigner Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The line "Where even Richard Nixon has got soul" is absolutely classic!! | |
| Neil Young – Thrasher Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"With a one-way ticket to the land of truth and my suitcase in my hand How I lost my friends I still don't understand". Thats the story of my life. This song is amazing. |
|
| Neil Young – After the Gold Rush Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is (obviously) about the sad state of the world. The first verse is full of metaphors that could be interpreted many ways. The middle verse is absolutely beautiful. "Hoping it was a lie" in my opinion refers to the fact that someone told him (maybe an Al Gore-like figure at that time) that the world was in very bad shape. The last verse talks about the evacuation of planet earth. | |
| Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I agree with whoever wrote that the "remember when i moved in you.." part describes an orgasm. This song is hauntingly beautiful. But I don't get why different versions have different verses. Did Buckley write some of the verses for his version?? | |
| Soundgarden – Like Suicide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I like the bird story, which hints at the double meaning of "lived like a murder" (murder of crows). "Eyes were waking up - just to fall asleep" sounds like a metaphor for falling in love. The final 3 or so minutes of this song are absolutely OFF THE HOOK!!! | |
| Bob Dylan – Visions of Johanna Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"Little boy lost , he takes himself so seriously. He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously." Reminds me of Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley. |
|
| Pearl Jam – 4/20/02 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is absolutely incredible. It almost brings me to tears every time I hear it. I wish I could play it for certain people "So sing like him, fuckers, it won't offend him - just me. Cuz he's dead" . My thoughts exactly!! By the way Tallbob88 Layne died about two weeks before they found him dead in his apartment. (at leat according to the coroners report) |
|
| Pearl Jam – Satan's Bed Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I agree with jaco. "I'll never suck satan's dick" , refers to corporate america and the record companies. Like Bill Hicks .... | |
| Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
No question that this is one of the greatest songs ever written. I have come to interpret the first two lines as being about an artist (untouched canvas..sheets of clay), maybe eddie himself attempting to create something. P.S. - get a life lord thesius |
|
| The Mars Volta – Tetragrammaton Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Hey "inpraiseoffolly" you don't belong here. I guess TMV are awful - when you compare them to Britney Spears or any other run-of-the-mill pop/punk/emo band... For the real TMV fans - who the hell is Rosalyn Carter? | |
| The Mars Volta – Eriatarka Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| WHOOOAAA!!! And I thought I was way into this band!! Holy shit you people are going way to deep into this - like teknik. Get a grip dude! Let the lyrics paint a picture and infer associations - don't try to interpret them word for word.... But then again it's a free world. ;-) How fucking incredible is this band, eh!!? | |
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Even though most of Cedrics lyrics are way WAY out there, anyone who knows the story of that Julio guy who jumped off a bridge can easily recognize the meaning behind this song ("just as he hit the ground") . "The curse that flew right by you" in my opinion refers to the coma that he came out of. "Stained walks crutched in hobbled sway" could refer to his condition after the coma. "..The asphalt that cushioned his face" - now hows that for imagery! And you gotta love the line "One day this chalk outline will circle this city". And where does he come up with words like sobriquets and auto-de-fe. I couldn't believe that these were actual words! I have a feeling he sits around on occassion with a dictionary, writing down obscure words and phrases. |
|
| Elliott Smith – Condor Ave. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I liked that, thagunk. There is a whole story in this song that could be interpreted many ways. I heard this was the first song he ever wrote. Wow! Not bad for a teenage kid! | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Hummer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I believe it goes " Chased BY charmed"... And also "Shaved my toungue..." One of my all time favorite songs. Haven't got a clue as to some of the lyrics but they do paint a picture of a melancholy dreamer with songs in his head ("when you're a hummer") . Like me when I was seventeen. |
