when i first heard this i was ECSTATIC. every girl's under pressure to look like the rest, to act like them, blah blah. obviously the kooks like the different girls! (like me!) there's hope...lol everyone's gonna feel stupid for being themselves once and a while (i get a bit loud...) but this is a great way of saying how he appreciates it. =) makes me smile. |

don't come too close, you don't wanna see my ghost!! ohhhh, i love it =) the kooks are the best brits out there. i guess this is about getting over an ex or something of the sort. i love the part where it slows down in the middle, his voice is so brilliant. "you're rotten and i'm betrayed by you, my sweetheart" this line is so sad, i love it though. song is ace, vocals BRILLIANT as usual. loveloveloveit. |

it's crazy how much i can relate to this song... i agree that it's about false hope and crap, but my favorite part is "he said it's all in your head, i said so is everything but he didnt get it" i love how she puts songs together...it's like a story but it's not folk music. it's just beautiful, i guess? fiona's a mystery. |

| Missy Higgins – Scar Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think that this song is about Missy's various relationships with both genders. And about love, in general. My interpretations: "and I thought, 'this one knows better than I do,'" ^ about how she trusted him and that she was much more ignorant than him. "A triangle, trying to squeeze through a circle, He tried to cut me so I'd fit," ^ how the relationship wasn't her type of relationship, and how he tried to make her accept it. "And doesn't that sound familiar? Doesn't that hit too close to home? Doesn't that make you shiver, the way things could have gone? And doesn't it feel peculiar, When everyone wants a little more? So that I do remember to never go that far, Could you leave me with a scar?" ^ how this can relate to everyone (hit too close to home), and how she wants to never go through that again, so she needs a scar or a memory or something to remind her. "So the next one came with a bag of treats, she smelled like sugar and spoke like the sea, And she told me don't trust them, trust me, And she pulled at my stitiches one by one, looked at my insides clicking her tongue and said "This will all have to come undone"," ^ about how the next one, a girlfriend, was sweet and confident, and told her not to trust men. The stitches are memories of men and how she needs to let go of her love for them. "I think I realised, just in time, Although my old self, was hard to find, You can bathe me, in your finest wine, But I'll never give you mine, 'Cause I'm a little bit tired of feeling like I'm the bad fruit, nobody buys, Tell me did you think we'd all dream the same?" ^ she realized that she needed to be HERself and not be cut into any other shape. And you can bribe her or try to mold her into what you want, but she'll never give herself up. She's tired of fearing that she'll be unwanted if she IS herself...and that they all want what everyone else wants, but someone out there could want her for herself and not for what she thinks they want. Thanks! I also agree with andleia about Missy's sexuality. It's not a big whoop if she's bi or lesbian. It's a song, and it's totally irrelevant to who she dated. |
