The best way to sound like Michael Jackson? Buy one of his songs. This song was written by The Neptunes for Michael Jackson but he had a falling out with them and it was sold to JT instead. |

This song is really sad to me.
I could have another you in a minute,
Matter fact, he’ll be here in a minute
It sounds like she is saying she will never really love a man because everyone of her boyfriends is replaceable. |

probably isn't about an ex-girlfriend, more likely it is for female fans - "i don't even know you that well" - who have to deal with the bullshit and sexism of high school and the suburbs. He's saying that the losers in your hicksville town might think your a freak but hopefully his record will help you cope - "psychic hearts go out to you" - until you can get away to a better place- "and my prayer to you is that you do all the things you set out to do live your life the way you want". Other songs on the record are about women who did - Ono Soul, Patti Smith Scratch Acid - and how he loves them for it. |

Yes, it is about Karen Carpenter, but it has added meaning since it was recorded for their major label debut. There is an obvious parallel between Karen Carpenter's death due in part to the pressures of the music industry and Sonic Youth's own hesitation to working with a major label.

| Sonic Youth – Do You Believe In Rapture? Lyrics

I interpret the song as being about the Christian Rapture in relation to USA Foriegn Policy - specifically the unbelievable beliefs of our born again President and the Fundamentalists who have unwaivering faith in his every misstep. George W Bush is a drunken imp who believes that the second coming of Christ is imminent and tied to his own misguided actions in the Middle East, but the lyrics seem to focus more on the mechanisms of faith by which his supporters continue to belief in the possibility of a positive outcome for this boondoggle. |
