I see this as someone who was severely depressed in their teens and is now looking back after recovering somewhat and wishing they could do-over their teenage years in a normal/idealized way. teen idle is obviously a play on teen idol, with the bottle blond prom queen being the stereotypical 'queen bee', but it also could relate to how people with depression are often characterized as lazy and apathetic, when in reality they feel far too much. wanting to be a fake is wishing you could put up a front and act like a normal person. so wishing you could be a teen idle is wishing you could've been as uncaring as you seemed to be. |

I think it's about being in a relationship where the things that you find most attractive about each other are also the things that drive you crazy. "The fire you like so much in me Is the mark of someone adamantly free" means she's very independent- consequently, the two of them are always arguing and she's sick of it ("tired of fighting"). |

This song is basically about that moment of mutual (Not a word of OUR weakness) horror when you wake up next to the wrong person after a night of drinking. And as magicman said, it's a mistake that gets repeated- "Wash away my weekend Shatter my sight C'mon sweet amnesia You're needed here tonight" means he goes out to get drunk in order to forget the things he did last time he was drunk. One line I'm not clear on: "The fairest arms still tally up the faintest stars" Fairest here probably means most reasonable, not prettiest, and tallying up stars could refer to getting stars for good behavior as a kid... |

"Maybe they knew more than we knew" could refer to their friends being in no hurry to grow up and get married(dancing and drinking), while the singer has "jumped off the deep end" into real life responsibility. No idea what the "smoked it down" part is about- maybe something like shot it down? |
