I know for a fact the song is about group sex. Although the chorus makes references to moshing, and pogoing is a style of dancing done at rock concerts. That's SOAD for you. A quick(ish interpretation. Note: I live in britain, where the economy is going nuts, so I'm probably wrong in parts. You depend on our protection yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth -- Bush only got into power cos we put him there. He only stays cos we keep him there. He should know this, yet he continues to lie, cheat, declare war and be stupid. Everybody's going to the party have a real good time Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine -- Thousands of people have gone to war in Iraq. Some sarcasm in this verse methinks. Where the f**k are you! -- 'Bush declared this war, why isn't he fighting it alongside us' may be an unpatriotic response from a soldier, but it sure as hell is appropriate. 'Why don't presidents fight the war, why do they always send the poor' is self-explanatory. Incidentally, it was predicted that in the 2000 US presidential elections around 100 million americans wouldnt vote simlpy cos there wasnt really any noticable difference between Bush and Gore (see 'testify' vid by Rage against the machine). Oh, and Bush's IQ, if anyone is interested, is 91. The average is 110. To be gifted it has to be 130+. The song is, as a few people have said, Daron Malakian's metaphor describing war - specifically, the war in Iraq, if you can call Yank forces bombing the bejesus out of innocent people much of a war - as a 'party', and this idea of his was sparked off when he saw an ad for a job in the army, which basically (I assume) showed all the positive aspects of life in the armed forces, while not mentioning the risks of death, gangrene, and having your legs shot off. he actually did a whole album with his pal Arto Tuncboyaciyan. It's pretty weird, a mix between rock, rap, Armenian folk music, Native African music, and much more, but thoroughly awesome. The album is called Serart, and it can be found on iTunes for £9.99. Any real SOAD fan needs it. People who only listen to SOAD because they think it's cool to be metal-mad will hate it. I can't give the lyrics cos they arent anywhere. Seriously. Nowhere. At all. Don't even try looking for them because unless you can actually ask Serj himself you have no hope. The reason for this is the whole album was recorded in something like six days and is mostly incomprehensible to anyone who doesn't speak any Armenian or any of the hundreds of languages spoken in Africa. I can try to convey the lyrics for Metal Shock, but that's it really. |
