This is just the perfect song. And does anyone else think the lead singer sounds like Bille Joe Armstrong of Green Day in this? Maybe that's just me.
All in all, this song is pretty obvious and doesn't need much more lyrical interpretation than what's already been given. Definitely not about pregnancy though or that'd be kind of creepy...
Basically the entire song is summed up by the line "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." Personally, my favorite quote of all time I think. That's all the song is about... it's a big metaphor about life going on in cycles. So I guess you could say pregnancy even, now that I think about it... |

I always assumed it was about Gwyneth Paltrow... she's blonde, (blonde=yellow) I guess everytime I've heard it I've thought it was this beautiful love song for her but I guess not... I don't even know if he knew her at that time anyways, did he? |

I'm sorry but does anyone else laugh about Billy Joel running with a "dangerous" crowd? Billy Joel is of course one of the greatest musicians of all time but compared to the rest of them he is MILD if you listen to his lyrics and tempos!
But really, this is the anthem of any Catholic girl about to give it up. How can you not enjoy it? And the name VIRGINia is an enormous coincidence indeed if it was actually a person's name whom he knew... |

That's pretty much beyond-words mind-boggling that Paul McCartney could write so many chart toppings hits that he willingly gave a great one away during the a time in his career where he could have easily made it into a legend himself, instead turning an entire band into a legend...

Intrepid88... you're thinking of American Girl. That's what that song (which ranks up with Free Fallin' as one of Petty's best) means. If you read the lyrics to the other song it becomes apparent that even though that story could be applied to this song, it fits much more nicely with American Girl. |
