Jesus people, the meaning of this song is as easy as 2+2 (That would be 4 for you smart kids.) "Give us this day our daily dose of faux affliction Forgive our sins forged at the pulpit With forked tongues selling faux sermons Because I am a new wave gospel sharp And you'll be thy witness So gentlemen, if you're gonna preach For God sakes preach with conviction" Mmmkay. 'Faux afflictoin" The scene, people. It's also refereing to how fake most of the new 'scene' or 'emo' bands are today. 'Preach with conviction' be honest and sing about what you know (or do a better job of lying). "Strike up the band Oh, the conductor is beckoning Come, congregation, and let's sing it like you mean it No, don't you get it, don't you get it? Now don't you move" The 'congreagtion' is referring to all the 'scene' and or 'emo' kids that listen to thsoe bands and hang on every word. Don't move to be different or unique, follow the rend. "Just stay where I can see you Douse the lights We sure are in for a show tonight" Satge light. Turn them off, trust them (panic) to show you what a real band is like. "In this little number we are graced by two displays of character We've got the gunslinger extraordinaire And a walking contradiction Because I for one can see no blood from their hearts Or the wrists you allegedly slit And I for one won't stand for this If this scene were a parish you'd all be condemned " Ealking contradiction. Every 'emo.scene' (the fake ones) people and bands. This is my favorite verse. It's just saying that all these little 'emo' kids are posers, faking pain for attention. 'If the scene were a parish, you'd all be condemmed." Speaks for itself. I, for one, and a huge fan of Panic! and all of their music. Ryan is a great writer and he doesn't get enough credit. I love how more people like them (minus the posers) becasue they actually deserve fans. Though, the posers are killing them. No onw cares how pretty they are, it's all about their music.
