| The Used – My Pesticide Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I first thought of drug addiction, but I can see how it could be about a relationship. "Stuck here, sitting in your own mess, sinking," He's in a mess with drugs, and it's getting worse. "Call up arms - a search for a better word." A better word than "addiction," maybe? "A mess you made, a smell you chose to break in front of you." Depending on the drug, it probably has a distinct smell. It's the smell he chose when he decided what he wanted to unknowingly "kill his dream" with. It will "break" him. "'Better off on your own,' you said." Screw life, life, jobs, etc. Just like an addict, all that matters is getting high. "I've seen that look in your eye - it's embarrassing," Desperation. "[???] to make this quite unpleasant poison, and it's" Prolly an insult, talking about whoever invented whatever he's on. "My life, my pesticide, works over time." Obvious. "Make it last, well, I would." He wants it to last as long as possible. "It's my life, by me this time." He made this choice. He's self-destructive, and he's following it. "My pesticide, slow to kill your dream." His dream - maybe to be a singer - is harder to obtain/maintain with his addiction. "Staying paralyzed, another day wasted." High all day, day's gone. "Colors fade to gray, like they never do. The whole thing spins" He's coming down. Bye-bye hallucinations. "and, yes, you chose to think for only you;" Prolly means the same thing as "it's my life." "So pull the pin and let the whole thing go." Destroy himself with the drug. "Between that smile and that look, it's embarassing." Prolly the same desperation or some other related emotion. "A shallow soul to let this quite unpleasant poison, and it's" to let this quite unpleasant poison [take over oneself] |

| Gorillaz – Starshine Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Starshine, never gonna find me. Starshine, when you gonna find me? Starshine, never gonna find me. Starshine, never gonna find me. Stand easy with myself, with myself. Jumping up, I'm low, low, low, low. Show me down. Starshine, never gonna find me. Starshine, when you gonna find me? Starshine, never gonna find me. Starshine, never gonna find me. That's the lyrics as I hear them, but the song I got is from the `Gorillaz` album, not whichever one it said these were from. Anyway, it does look like "Starshine" is a metaphor for happiness. "Jumping up" is him trying to be happy when he's depressed, but it just doesn't work. |

| Joan Osborne – One Of Us Lyrics | 18 years ago |

If God had long hair and a goatee, And if His eyes were pretty glazed, If He looked spaced out, would you buy His story? Would you believe He had an eye infection? And yeah, yeah, God looks baked. Yeah, yeah, God smells good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What if God smoked cannabis? Hit the bung like some of us? Drove a tie-dyed microbus, And He subscribes to Rolling Stone? When God made this place In the beginning, did He plant any seeds? Or did He put them there for Adam and Eve, So they'd be hungry for the apple that the snake was always offering? And yeah, yeah, God rolls great. Yeah, yeah, God smells good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What if God smoked cannabis? Do you suppose He had a buzz When He made the platypus? When He created earth, our home? Does He like Pearl Jam or the Stones? And do you think He rolls His own Up there in Heaven on the throne? And when the saints go marching home, Maybe He sits and smoke a bowl. |

| Nine Inch Nails – Home Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's that feeling when you meet someone that you can't live without. Every now and then, he feels he can live without her; but that feeling doesn't last very long. | |
| A Perfect Circle – Vanishing Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Umm... am I the only one who thinks it's about drugs? Smoke. Like, once it's gone, there's no evidence. You burn the evidence. And when you're, like, outside, it just lifts up and becomes the air. It can't be traced. The government can't run programs and tracers and blah-blah-blah. It's true freedom. It's the heart of freedom. Once the smoke's gone, it's just... gone. |

| The Used – Earthquake Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's pretty much the sequal to "Buried Myself Alive" ("the kind that would bury us alive") except in this one he ruined the relationship instead of her ruining it. | |
| Farewell Flight – Ticketed Passengers Only Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think he just ended a relationship for an unmentioned reason, and can't decide whether or not it was the right thing to do ("No matter what you say, you can't convince yourself this is the right thing. It's not the right thing."). I would say the girl ended the relationship, but the lyrics say, "One last chance - I reject your call." He's the one avoiding her. I'm guessing he finds his decision unbearable, because he still loves her*, and death sounds oh-so sweet ("The plane, it banks. We begin to fall. This is the best dream I've ever had."). I wouldn't say he regrets his decision, though, or he would have answered her call. * "As long as we are choosing sides, I think its only fair I have the right to make the first round pick, and you should know that you're still it." Whatever's being referred to in "choosing sides" is probably the reason for the breakup. |

| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I believe it's saying that the band provides you with ways to deal with your emotions ("I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words"). They're not trying to get attention ("this ain't a scene"), they're trying to allow you to express yourself ("it's a...arms race"). "the lies I weave are oh so intricate" It sounds like he's saying the stories in their music aren't necessarily true, but are indeed an emotional, complex story. "All the boys who the dance floor didn't love / And all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough / Sing until your lungs give out" These are the people to whom he's providing "arms." These are the people who need to vent out, and he's trying to get them to do just that. As for the stanza I left out, I have no idea what it means. I haven't put a lot of thought into it. |
