Shirley is telling someone about how cruel life can be, and it can get harder, but don't let it break you. "Everytime you give yousrself away, it comes back to haunt you." This means that once you let someone in or trust someone with something very important, they can backstab you and throw it all in your face. It makes you want to give up and break, but she's telling the audience to run, to not let it get the best of you. "When nothing seems certain or safe, let it burn through you." That's my favorite line from the song. It's saying to not be so cautious, take some chances and let go! If it's dangerous, don't think "what if this happens, what if that happens, something could go wrong".. she's saying to hell with it, go through with it anyway. |

| This boy (I choose to say boy because I'm a boy and can relate to this song. However, it could be a girl) is being held back by cruel, jealous bullies who want to see him fail. Shirley knows he is capable of great things, and she wants him to show these people what he can do. I feel like Shirley is speaking to someone who was a lot like her, she's been through it and she knows how it feels to be stabbed in the back and made fun of. She is letting this boy know that she feels for him, and it's time to show these people! | |

Shirley wishes that she wasn't affected by the mess that is going on around her. She wishes she was stronger and that her heart wouldn't go out to those who are in pain. But instead, she really is affected by it all. "I want to understand so I can forgive and be willing to love" - if she understood WHY we needed to be in war, then maybe she would forgive it instead of hate it. I may be wrong about the ar thing because she could be talking about something personal in her life, but that's what I got from it. |

That's why Shirley is saying that it's a dangerous world, be careful, and she is telling this guy to let this girl go. Because if he doesn't let her go, she's gonna be broken. i agree with the last few comments. i think that she would do anything for this guy that keeps leaving her and keeps coming back. she's never cared about what anyone else thought of her until him (and i was never looking for approval from anyone but you) "and though this journey's over" she isn't dead yet, because, as she states many times, he'll be back again. also, she plays tough on the outside and doesn't want him to know that it hurts her, because she says "underneath the ink of my tattoo, i've tried to hide my scars from you". |

Best song of all time, definitely No Doubt's best. The hyped up music definitely matches up with Gwen's incredible lust for who she's falling in love it. She's definitely adoring this person, and we can all relate to this song whenever we get a crush on someone. This song doesn't forget to mention the crazy feelings, and how she can't resist. I can't explain how great it is. |

Yeah, you guys are right about the pregnancy. She goes through and explains how she felt, what she was thinking, and then finally realising she was pregnant. I think the song has a way different, strange style, similar to the "way different, strange" feelings she was having. |
