this is the way i persoanlly see this song.. The singer has lost someone very close to them and now they have begun to question who is going to do all the stuff that person used to do. the person who passed away was the one WHO did all of that stuff but now there not there to do it anymore. i dont see the second verse to be about war, "suprise attacks" to me seems like a couple having fun. but anyways thats how i see it. especially because of the chorus, i know it reminds me about the love ones ive lost |

i agree with jaffa but i can see where occams is coming from.. i think the singer is talking from a third person, or in the stream of consciousness.. its talking about all the things somebody asks themselves, but it is being asked by a third party. |

Good song. i also thought pretty much the same as most people, a sweet guy who gave up a relationship bcoz he thought she deserved better... but after looking into it, it seems that he was an older guy who was just using her for sex and finally realised what he was doing was wrong. for example.. "The edge of the bed Where your nightgown used to be" - her nightgown was on the end of the bed, not on her. "And the way your innocence tastes" - her innocence, her childness ect, she was a young girl. "I found those pictures i took That you were looking for" - pictures he took of her, and their in a box.. maybe some type of sexual photos. "That time at the mall You and me in the dressing room" - this is just pointing to sex. and thats my theroy. |

okay this may b long.. This whoel first verse is just about the fact that a guy feel in love. he found what he thought was his true love. and he was so caught up in it he forgot who he really was. she was his everything. second verse is about them breaking up. the way this song is sung is great.. the emotional tone of his voice is that hes in love but the lyric say otherwise. "i was ment to tred the water but now ive gotten into to deep" - is saying that it was no intentional. "for every peice of me that wants yu, another peice backs away" - shows that he still is uncertain. "i never brought u flowers, u cant work out what they mean. i never thought that id love someone, that was someone elses dream" - he obviously knew the girl as friends or something bfor he fell for her, he never understood why others brought flowers as they just never seemed to symbolise anything important to him.
