William Fitzsimmons – They'll Never Take The Good Years Lyrics 17 years ago
After this failed relationship, the speaker feels he is karmic-cursed his future relationships. He hasn't learned from his past mistakes ("god I wish I would have learned").

He is telling his ex not to be afraid to move on or look for him as he has caused enough pain. While his relationship is over and he is sad about it, they cannot take the memories of the good times the two have shared.

William Fitzsimmons – You Still Hurt Me Lyrics 17 years ago
This song shows that even the person who does the cheating can be hurt by a break up. We learn in a previous song on this album (Just not Eachother) that when these two people were younger, she broke his heart. While it is never explicitly state what she has done to hurt him those many years ago, the speaker does state the he forgave her.

I think this song expresses the frustration and perhaps shock that his wife has been away so long (13 months since May) and that she could simply walk out on him. Yes, he he caused this problem ("what I had broke") but the fact that she could not stand beside him in this hour of need is what has hurt him so much.

He has thrown out all the trivial material things that used to belong to her- but believes has kept the one thing that symbolized their love- his ring (read: wedding ring).

William Fitzsimmons – Even Now Lyrics 17 years ago
A straight forward question where the speaker is asking how long it will take before he cuts his loses. He admits that he still loves his ex-wife and hopes to meet again, perhaps to reconcile. (or implicitly to meet his daughter - which we learn his ex is pregnant with in the previous song, "Just not eachother")- and sing her to sleep.

William Fitzsimmons – Just Not Each Other Lyrics 17 years ago
This song illustrates the somewhat reluctant acceptance of the break up.

He's fixed his "home" (read: heart) after the "disaster". He can see her ghost under the plaster he's used to fix the cracks.

Obviously, his ex is pregnant with his child and since he's given up his "treasure" (read: his ex-wife) the child will not know her father (the speaker).

The speaker states that when they were children (and presumably when things were easier and less serious) she broke his heart and he forgave her. Things are more serious now, and she cannot repay that favor to him.

He states that each of them will find love again but not in the arms of each other.

William Fitzsimmons – Please Forgive Me (Song of the Crow) Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is a simple admission of what the subject did to his wife. Despite her sweeping him off his feet and giving her heart to him-along. He left betrayed that by, among other things, leaving her out to sea.

He speaks of his demons- in this song, his demons show up in the form of adultery and lust- as he has cheated on his wife with another woman.

Another meaning would be a somewhat religious meaning. Obviously, we're explicitly talking about demons- which have their place in the religious argument. When he writes "I put you on a tree" this could be a metaphor for the crucifixion of Jesus.

William Fitzsimmons – If You Would Come Back Home Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this album because all the songs tell one story together- so amazing!

This particular installment is a plea to the subject's estranged wife. Simply asking for a chance to "start all over".

This entire song is so moving- but the one line that sticks out to me is the "and the chair where I've been sleeping" line. This break up was due to cheating on the Male's part. I find it painfully ironic that he cannot bring himself to sleep in the bed that he cheated on his wife in.

William Fitzsimmons – I Don't Feel It Anymore Lyrics 17 years ago
This song on this hauntingly heartbreaking album is the admission of the catalyst that ended the marriage- cheating. William illustrated this in a story telling setting, telling his lover "hold on, this will hurt more than anything" and we see just what it is that he did when her response is "I've worked so long just to see you mess around"

The final verse ends with "we're alone" which brings us into the next song on the album.

William Fitzsimmons – Afterall (Revised) Lyrics 17 years ago
This song (actually titled "After Afterall") is part two to the song called "Afterall" on the previous album, Goodnight.

This entire album is based on William's previous marriage and it's disintegration. This first "stage" if you will is William stating that after all the hardships that his relationship has been through, he wants to make those marriage vows ring true (for better or worse, in sickness and health, til death do us part).

The second part shows a realization that after all the hardships the relationship has been through, the damage is irreconcilable in his mind- (please don't keep me) but the female voice wants to make it work (please don't leave me).

William Fitzsimmons – Passion Play Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this is a reference to the Christian Passion of Christ and the ever popular Passion Plays that many churches put on around easter. William writes his lyrics based on both personal experiences and those of some of his therapy clients. I would imagine that religion would be a common struggle.

The voice of the character (whether it be William or someone else) is talking about the normal feelings of wanting to be a better person and wanting to do the right things in life... he also wonders if he's heard (by God or whomever he is speaking to) when he speaks.

That's what I get from this. I hope it helps... and that I'm not to far off.

William Fitzsimmons – Everything Has Changed Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the story of someone who is watching his father fall apart after his grandmother killed herself. I don't know if this is a personal experience for the Artists, or if he is just wonderfully amazing at describing events like this... but the lyrics are amazing.

First, we find out that his father is in the graveyard, looking for his mom (the father's mother... not the speaker). Obviously he is in a graveyard looking for her because she has passed.

The next image we get is the speaker and his brother in the hallway being scared and waiting for his father. I think this is at the hospital. Perhaps the paramedics tried to save the grandmother. OR this is in the speaker's house and the father is learning of his mother's death. Obviously they were looking for cover and trying to get away from their father who was in pain... or perhaps angry.

The next part of the lyrics should read "a guide dog had to serve the roll that you would not let the mother of your children really ever play". I think this can be explained by the lines "i wonder if you blamed yourself for when she left you by closing up the garage door and turning on the car". My interpretation is that the father suffered some sort of vision loss from the effects of how his mother killed herself (carbon monoxide) and that the speaker is trying to illustrate how cold his father is by showing that he would not take help from others... only a guide dog, and that he kept his office as a dungeon.

The pieces falling to the ground are most likely those of the family- representing the falling apart of the family unit. (and hence "everything has changed"

Lastly, the speaker is dreaming about being in a graveyard once again. This time, he sees his father in the ground and he pictures an apology.

Joshua Radin – These Photographs Lyrics 19 years ago
The four women are stong feminist women of their time and each of the little scenerios are kinda cool when you know who these women are. You have two writers, a singer and a painter who are all capabale of conjuring up these "photographs" Radin is speaking of.

sylvia plath has a famous quote: "There must be quite a few things that a hot bath won't cure, but I don't know many of them". Cartainly the idea of a lover with such a cheerful outlook on life would be desired.

Simone de Beauvoir, was a writer starting around the mid 1940's. She was known for writing about the oppression of women as the so-called "second sex". She was also known to take long car rides to emurse herself in the culture of her time so that she would write.

Nina Simmone was a singer from the mid 1950's on. She was known for her passionate and "breathy" voice. So having her sing on the phone would be nice.

Mary Cassatt was a painter from the late 1800s- early 1900s. She often painted the private lives of women of the time, focusing on the bond between mother and child. Certainly, this is illustrated by the "You're like a child, all the while I need you a lot". He's saying his love has a childlike quality to her.

"I wanna know what you know and I wanna go where you go" are Radin stating that he simply wants to go where his love has gone and he wants to know what she knows. Perhaps living vicariously through what she's been through.

Joshua Radin – The Fear You Won't Fall Lyrics 19 years ago
THis song is about being in love with a friend and dealing with the issue of telling your best friend you're in love with them. He misses her more than he should because he sees her as a possible love. "It hasn't felt like home before" because all the girls he's dated before have never been his best friend.

So he's dealing with the turmoil of should he tell her or not "part of the beauty of falling in love with you is the fear you won't fall" The line "I know you're scared that I'll soon be over it" to me says that he's trying to reassure her that this isn't some fluke feeling, that he really does love her that that he's not just going to change his mind in the middle of it all.

"I hate the phone, but I wish you'd call" he obviously wants to talk to her. I don't know the reason he can't talk to her... maybe they've talked about being a couple and he was unable to tell her that it wasn't some fluke relationship.. and he thought that being a lone was better than feeling this way. Maybe he screwed things up.

Anyways... boy and girl are best friends, he likes her, she's scared, they talk about it and either decided to not go through with it or that he is unable to completely commit to her... she leaves, he decides she's all that he wants and now he can't reach her.

that's what I get.
