the statue is looking back on his past with regret, he did what everyone else wanted him to, living up to what he was supposed to be in the eyes of others. the bird is singing his realization that none of it means anything to him. he should have made his own choices. but he still feels obligated to those people in his past, even though he knows it doesnt mean anything to him, he's making them happy but cheating himself |
