Rufus Wainwright – Going to a Town Lyrics 18 years ago
I ignore the "I'm so tired of America" line, and this is how I see it: this song is about cutting ties a friend that is perhaps a bad influence, a negative impact on your emotional health. That ex-friend took blatant advantage of you without caring about the consequences. This song, to me, is about rising above and leaving behind someone that has held you down in a significant way.

The Meg And Dia Band – Timmy Lyrics 18 years ago
If I'm right then yeah. This is an earlier version of Roses. Meg rewrote the guitar solo intro thing for the song when they were working on the new record and she ended up rewriting the whole song... lol.

Meg & Dia – What Are You Into? Lyrics 18 years ago
Feel free to correct, and if it sounds right I'll change it. It's hard to hear what they're saying sometimes, especially in the last verse.

I think this song has to do with a vampire girl. Vampires can't go out in sunlight ("the sun would soon hurt"), are generally pale ("porcelain skin", "trembling white fingers").

"Sell me the secrets of love in a pint of blood." This sounds vampirey to me. When I think "vampires," I think "blood" and "romance". :p

I wasn't sure whether it was "Rapsey" or "rhapsody" in the last verse-- all the other transcriptions of the lyrics say that it's Rapsey but I heard rhapsody. A rhapsody is "exalted or excessively enthusiastic expression of feeling, especially in speech or writing."

Once again, feel free to correct.

The Meg And Dia Band – Joey Had a Smoke Lyrics 19 years ago
How is it weird? It's not as though they're singing how much they love God or anything; they're just retelling a story. A lot of their songs are about stories. Rebecca is a song told from Rebecca's point of view, a character in a book called (surprise surprise) Rebecca by Daphne duMaurier. Monster is based on something that John Steinbeck mentioned in East of Eden; if a child does not receive love it will become a monster, etc etc blah blah blah. What difference does it make if it's a religious tale? A lot of stories from religious texts are actually quite interesting, I can see why they'd write a song about one...

Sorry, I didn't mean to make that sound so snotty but I had to make a point. Lol.

OK Go – Oh, My Little Kitten Lyrics 19 years ago
It's funny, because at first you think the cat is a metaphor. Then you find out that it's -actually- about a cat...
I love this song. It might just be my favourite.

OK Go – We Dug A Hole Lyrics 19 years ago
"you never think you know this but when you got a dead start, sucking up both times in your brain, things start to change"

The right line is "You never think you know this, but when you got a dead star suckin' up photons in your brain, things start to change".

A dead star can end up being either a white dwarf, a neutron star or a black hole; a photon is the elementary particle responsible for electromagnetic phenomena.

Meg & Dia – Roses Lyrics 19 years ago
This song, to me, sounds like a pretty flower girl selling roses in a club.

"A hundred bodies fill this room, and all their faces overdone. Pain is foreign, foreign to us."
The first thing I thought: dance club. People there are doing heroin or something, hence "pain is foreign to us" LOL

"I'd sell my kicks for one more low tar."
Kicks are shoes, low tars are a kind of cigarette.

"Why are some girls so naive? He didn't unbutton your blouse to see a better view of your heart."
Haha, I love this line. It's so playful. Basically what she's saying is "he didn't take off your shirt so he could see your heart better, he just likes the b00bage"

:] Feel free to correct me.

Meg & Dia – Cardigan Weather Lyrics 19 years ago
Definitely about cheating.

I do know that it's about something Meg & Dia learned about when they were doing a photoshoot... in some country (I don't remeber which one), they torture people by sewing them into mattresses or something.

Meg & Dia – Monster Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

It's a wonderful story. It's kind of long though; something like 600 pages, and it drags a little bit at places. But it's good.

OK Go – Hello, My Treacherous Friends Lyrics 19 years ago
Geez... people always assume things that don't make sense are about drugs and tripping. Not quite, kiddos.

Damian moved to a new city; it was exciting. He had these two friends that screwed him over in really annoying ways. His new house had spiders infesting it, and when he'd get mad about them his girlfriend would tell him that he couldn't get mad because "they're our children." Hence the new-born arachnid kids. :)

Kinda random, but who cares. It's a great song.
