to my knowledge Leeds United is a soccer team in the U.K. lol that's about as much info as i can lend. Also if you haven't checked out the website, the lyrics from -presumably- amanda herself are in there and there's some photos at the bottom of each that lend to the meaning of the songs. it's pretty sweet. |

Hero Sheema - i strongly believe you're right lol. The guitar hero motif is a strong refference to war as well, since recent reports have shown that guitar hero games were given to soldiers in iraq as a trainning and entertainment strategy, because it helps with hand eye coordination - extremely useful for when handling a gun, i assume. The video takes place at the school too, so it's much much more blatantly about this. Since virginia tech and columbine people have been so much more about what causes teens and kids to have become so violent - video games have always been at the top of that debate, and what better game to tie this around than the strategy of being a virtual rock star - a name recognized by everyone, and she relates the extended metaphor of being in a concert to that of being inside a school you're shooting up, everyone is yelling. Stratocasters are also not semi-automatic; guns are lol. "X marks the whole in your head that you dug for yourself now lie in it" <--- Amanda got into the distrubed head of most of these kids who have shot up the schools or at least assuming that this is how torturing it must be that eventually they shoot themselves -- and lie in it. The rest, i'm sure was talked about. lol i love this site hahah |

who would agree with the fact that this is about masturbation? It comes down to him being despondent, and looks for some sort of comfort. I figured eskimo reffered to this source of comfort. judging on other Damien rice songs it doesn's seem to far fetched to me |

This is a poem in itself as Oberst often does The idea of the young girl, and an older guy (the video totally helped to enhance the imagery of the intro) make this contrast, she's lost and not worried but clueless, the old man is cynically happy, and very confident saying HEY WE'RE GOING TO A PARTY! A BIRTHDAY PARTY which is obviously sarcastic and a bit sad I haven't looked into it much but i get that it's a bit about getting lost and a bit freed from all these rules "we must, we must, we must" and at the end the complacency of just being. Another striking detail is the mother watering the plants, nurturing and taking care of their life while the father loads his gun -- which i think is his father killing himself. This is like a memory while they're about to die. Also the fact that they're going into the ocean gives a sense of purification and being cleansed and giving up to something larger than them. It's a beautiful song Reminescent of the feeling you get from reading something like Camus or Fitzgerald =] complacently ddepressing |

i think this culd be of a couple of old lovers and shes getting married and they invite them to the wedding and they both still have feelings for each other but yeah it doesnt work the gun and loaded thing to me seems like something that theres only one thing missing but hten at the last minute we jsut "give it away" >.> |
