John Mayer – Queen of California Lyrics 13 years ago
Oh and one last observation :)

I'm headed out west with my headphones on (I'm taking a break, exploring new music, heading back to the drawing board)
Boarded a flight with a song in the back of my soul (A song at the back of his soul playlist?)

The song is also (clearly) a statement of the change that his musical style has undergone. "If you see her, say Hello" could be addressing fans and asking them to watch out for skeletons of his old style in the album. Something like Olivia, for instance. About that song I've heard many critics say "I told you so, nothing has changed. He's still his old womanising self."

Just a thought :)

I think John is referring to his past self as the (drama) Queen of California.

John Mayer – Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967 Lyrics 13 years ago
Such a great song!

I think Walt Grace lived. Here's why.

And for once in his life it was quiet -- (He was under the sea)
As he learned how to turn in the tide -- (He learnt to navigate his sub)
And the sky was a flare
When he came up for air -- (The submarine resurfaced)
In his homemade, fan-blade, one-man submarine ride.

This song fits in nicely with the overall theme of the album - love, hope, exploration, and redemption. I'm glad JM took to the country. It seems to have done him a lot of good!

Three – Alien Angel Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is part of the Wake Pig compilation. I think the whole album describes a persons journey through life in order. Alien Angel is the first song and thus symbolizes the beginning. i.e birth.
It describes how we get thrown onto this planet (fallen into flesh and bone) without a clue and our minds are blank. We find ourselves in a society that is uptight and rigid. The system is in place and we are molded into the consumer culture and everything else that comes with it. This is in tune with the Alien Angel video.
Basically, in the beginning, we are all saints (angels), pure and uncorrupted. Joey is addressing us and talking about our youth when he say.. "are you an angel whose ship ran aground, can't get a grip on this planet you've found.."
Joey also expresses his anger at how we keep blindly moving forward into society without ever pondering about who we really are, how we got here, could there be a purpose.. Society does this to us. It gives us reasons to live and die for, even though those reasons do not explain why we are here in the first place.. Joey's own lyrics from his solo album also seem to resonate this thinking.. "Who do you think you are? You're an insect in a jar!"
The album progresses through a person's life till it ultimately ends at Amaze Disgrace which talks about death (Your life, blood bleeds, along your wrist). It also mentions the underground where all dead souls supposedly went according to Greek Mythology.
