| @[Marty:7426] Being Marty I was surprised to see only one interpretation like this. This is way after the fact, but in case you still check this know that you're not alone in thinking the song is about heroin/addiction. | |

To me it sounds like he's trying to get the relationship somewhere, but she won't let him. ("Nobody move.") He keeps referring to her as being cold, as in unaffectionate perhaps. "How can you really feel?" only justifies that. "How can you really feel? 2 of another. None of a pair." She's detached herself from the relationship. You can't have a pair when one person won't participate. Like others have said, this is just my own interpretation. To be honest, this is how I usually am in relationships so that could be why this is how I understand the song. |

Pynchon in definitely a challenge to read. Over the summer I attempted getting through Gravity's Rainbow but could barely finish the first 100 pages so I quit. It's definitely something I want to try when I'm older though. It's just very difficult to make sense of what's going on. I've heard the similar things from others. Anyway this is definitely a brilliant song, and of course it is; Andrew Bird is a brilliant man. (= |
