Company of Thieves – Oscar Wilde Lyrics 16 years ago
I recently read Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest," which is a social commentary. It satirizes Victorian society for its value of "earnestness." Wilde mocks the Victorian obsession with reputation. This song seems to relate well to Wilde's views of life as a "beauty pageant all the time." (The "porcelain teacups" really remind me of "The Importance of Being Earnest"). The song is saying that we waste our lives on our futile attempts to impress others, yet we are truly wasting our lives. Time is running out to live OUR OWN lives rather than those of others.

Jack's Mannequin – Annie, Use Your Telescope Lyrics 16 years ago
before i bothered to look at the title to this song, i thought it was "andy you should tell this girl."
i'm not sure what that could have to do with the song, but if you listen closely it really sounds like that.

Jack's Mannequin – Bruised Lyrics 19 years ago
has anyone ever considered relating this song to andrew's cancer?

i'm just throwing this out there because i just thought of it. but there are words in the song that lead me to think that he might be talking about a hospital.

first of all, Andrew has Leukemia, which sometimes causes random bruises. the title of the song is BRUISED.

also, after he laces his chucks and walks the aisle, he takes his pills. Sick people take pills. then babies cry too. babies are born in hospitals.

and yet this one section of the song has no relationship to the rest of the song.

the first few stanzas are deffinitely about leaving a love behind. he wants the pilot to slow down so he can stay longer.

perhaps he leaves to go to the hospital? or maybe not.
it also makes sense for him to lace his chucks, and walk the aisle of the airplane. he takes pills just cuz he does, and babies cry because no baby likes an airplane.

the whole stanza about reading books but staying out late doesnt fit in either. except for the "bad news" part, which could relate to the cancer.

i could be totally off on this theory, but i just wanted to throw it out there.

Something Corporate – Me And The Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
the piano in the beginning of this song is simply amazing. i heard it and i couldnt get enough.

some people have suggested suicide. the wife definitely killed her husband..
"it's a good year for a murder. shes praying to jesus, she's pulling the trigger"

this man and women have been married for 17 years, and the only good thing that came out of the marraige was a daughter. they live in the suburbs, and she's sick of her boring life. she gives her life to this man, and is unhappy with the outcome, so she shoots him.

"it's me and the moon" could be a reference to the fact that she is alone, and the only thing she can count on always being there is the moon.

i don't exactly understand the references to butterflies. whomever is considered the butterfly is probably very delicate and fragile, but beautiful and amazing, like a butterfly.

the lyrics are rather morbid, but they deffinitely teach a good lesson about marraige. You must be prepared for what life gives you. It may be boring, but you can make the best out of what you have, becuase resorting to murdering your spouse is a horrendes, egregious thing.

overall a beautiful piece of music by one of my favorite bands. this album is deffinitely one of my top 10.
