| Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling into Place Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
'She looks back, you look back. Not just once. Not just twice" ... "You've got a light you can feel it on your back". When you can feel someone looking at you. I think it could be about two people who are really bad for each other yet they keep going back and doing the same thing over and over again and so he can predict what's going to happen on the date. "Wish away the nightmare" could then mean you wish you could let that person go, but you can't. Or maybe it's just the way I'm interpreting it coz of stuff in my life. |

| Bob Dylan – Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song is a metaphor for someone changing. The girl brought the hat and it wasn't really something she would usually wear. Her old boyfriend loved the old her, the new boyfriend only liked the new her, "the leopard skin pill box hat". I feel a bit stupid reading into it like this if it really is just a sarcastic song about a hat, though. | |

| Janis Joplin – Me and Bobby McGee Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Okay, I take this to what seems like the obvious conclusion to me but no one else has said it yet. Doesn't it sound like they were two young lovers just roamin' around together, makin music and makin love? Then the girl/guy (depending on who's singing it) wanted more, "He's looking for that home and I hope he finds it" but the singer of the song couldn't commit like their lover wanted them to. "I let him slip away" would then mean that the singer had the chance to be with him/her but decided against it and the song's basically regretting that decision and wishing they could go back, "I’d trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday To be holding Bobby’s body next to mine." |

| Janis Joplin – Move Over Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
...... No one's commented on this song... It's true it fairly obvious what it's about why hasn't anyone just stated how good it is? Has no one else fallen in love with Pearl as I have and love every single song on it? What is wrong with the world these days? "I can't take it no more, baby And furthermore I don't intend to" That's the best line. |

Haha I think the ads surrounding this song say it all... Erectile Dysfunction? Cure Your Impotence. Sexual Disorders Info - information you can trust. I love the line 'behind the fringe of a whiskey high/mutilating cat-like eyes' Ahhh, this is such a great summer song, just makes you wanna dance to all her fucking soul. |

| Bob Dylan – I Want You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I just wanted to say, AladdinInsane - cool name by the way - that although Dylan may have written those songs about Edie Sedgwick, applying the song to her doesn't mean anything to the rest of us. Dylan brings what he brings to the song, whether it be about Edie or not, but once he releases it, people are going to apply a universal meaning to it, or a more personal one if they can really relate, because otherwise the songs wouldn't get into you the way they do. You're not wrong, per sey but neither is AndrewJG. |

| Radiohead – Black Star Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
He keeps saying blame it on this, blame it on that, blame it on the black star and they're all things that can't really take the blame for anything happening in a person's life so the dude in this song is just finding anything he can to shift the responsibility from himself. It seems to be a bit of a recurring theme throughout the album. It's a really powerful song and I can really relate to it. Radiohead are one of the saviours of our time, one of the few bands actually saying, "Fuck you, this is what we wanna do and we don't care if you don't like it." They really give their listeners the guts to stand up and say the same, as well as nailing how we're feeling perfectly in almost every song. Such ambiguous lyrics are critical because there's a mystery but also a pliability to them and a huge number of people can mold the song to fit what they need it to mean for them at a particular time. I'd die without Radiohead. |

| Radiohead – High and Dry Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is mainly about someone who pushes the limits, like a daredevil does, but it doesn't have to necessarily be about an actual daredevil. Eventually his luck runs out and that's the second verse. "Best thing you ever had has gone away." Whatever he was pushing the limits for, he loved - be it a relationship, a job, whatever - and now everthing's fallen down and he has nothing left because he already gave his all. It's about disappointment and loss. It could also be about betrayal, "Don't leave me high/dry" but I tend to take this as him trying to shift the blame so his fall is anybody else's fault but his. |

| Mother Love Bone – Heartshine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
There seems to be some connection throughout the album of stars and shining and in this song there's heartshine. So it seems that stars represent love and when Xana's a stargazer, she's gazing at Wood's love, or his star. Then in this song he's giving these people his heartshine, which is his love. It's pretty obvious once you actually look at a few of the lyric but it's a cool metaphor coz it's like when you're loved you're in the light so I thought I'd point it out. I can't believe more people don't comment on Mother Love Bone. |

| Mother Love Bone – Bone China Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I don't know if it's just me but it sounds like he sings Jezebel's donkey not daughter. Which would tie in with the Ugly morning lyric just before it. Maybe it's the morning after and she's hungover and not looking as good as she did the night before. | |
| Bob Dylan – One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Weeell, I would say that this song is about a relationship where the guy wasn't really able to love the girl the way she wanted him to. When he says, "An' I told you, as you clawed out my eyes That I never really meant to do you any harm" that's the girl 'punishing' him, or maybe it's them breaking up coz she feels he never really tried as hard as she did. Although the guy did try in his own way, "I really did try to get close to you" "I didn't realize how young you were" isn't necessarily that she was too young, although it could be, but more it's the fatal flaw in their relationship that means it will never actually work out between the two of them so then the chorus is Dylan saying that sooner or later they're going to realise that the relationship couldn't have gone any other way "You just did what you're supposed to do" and that even though they tried, "I really did try to get close to you" in the end it doesn't matter. Kinda depressing but that's the way I see it. I don't know what happened with the whole Edie Sedgwick/Andy Warhol thing but even if Dylan did write it about that, there's always the interpretation that's open to anyone to apply to their own life and that's the magic of any great songwriter. |

| Temple of the Dog – Four Walled World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I take this song a different way. It seems to me that his four walled wall isn't an actual prison but it's this bad world he's created for himself that feels like a prison because he can't leave it or change it, not even for the woman he loves. He doesn't mention anything about committing a crime to get into prison so I think he's using it metaphorically. This girl loves him and is trying to rescue him but eventually she realises that it's impossible to change a person and that he doesn't actually want to change. "Well she tries and she tries But my feet just won't leave the ground ." Love this song coz I've been through a similar thing, loves Cornell's voice too, just below All Night Thing in my all-time favourites list. |

| Pearl Jam – Crown of Thorns Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| ahat1321, you're the idiot... At least grungekid is actually using this site properly... And this song is actually by Mother Love Bone but Pearl Jam cover it a lot, of course, coz it's an awesome song but better with the Chloe Dancer bit at the beginning... Go kill a cat ahat1321... | |
| Bob Dylan – Visions of Johanna Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i love this song coz my name's johanna and up until i found this song i never really liked my name... from now on though i shall love it! how many girls would love to be 'johanna' in this song.... she's like, in my opinion, who we all wanna be... like, even if we've lost that love we're still on that person's mind all the time and no one else compares to us... even if losing them makes you unhappy (and it would be way better if you were still with them) having someone out there who feels that way about you is awesome... i agree with what quite a few people have said here, that johanna is who he truly loves, can't forget and will die loving while louise is just, you know, someone to warm the bed... god i love my name now lol.. | |
| Counting Crows – Butterfly In Reverse Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| why would he say maryann if it was about a girl named mary? and where's your evidence to back it up? anyhu, i just love this song, it's a great one to song along too again and i think the saying she's better than the world is just so friggin sweet. | |
| Counting Crows – Mrs. Potter's Lullaby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i love love love this song, there are so many awesome lyrics and the whole thing is kinda like this story that he's telling us. i never used to know who "mrs potter" was so i always thought it was this person that he loved but could never have, hence the mrs, but would do anything for. it's such a great song to sing along to yet it has a deeper meaning... one of the many things i love about it. and i'm so glad someone was finally able to explain the circus, elephants and what not, had me real confused but now that interpretation plus the other opinions on here has sorted it. awesome awesome song. | |
| Counting Crows – Raining In Baltimore Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the lines, "the circus is falling to it's knees, the big top is coming down" really relate to what i'm going through right now. a really great relationship is at the point now where we've done everything we can for each other and we just have to move on. those lines and "i think it's time to put the top down" just say everything i'm going through really well. i had kinda underestimated how good this song is before i came on here but this is some great thinking people! | |
| Counting Crows – Sullivan Street Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'd never seen the leaving aspect of it before but i'm not so good at paying attention to the lyrics when it has bits in it like, "I'm almost drowning in her sea, she's nearly fallen to her knees" coz those bits just keep going through my mind. I had this song for ages but never listened to it but now it's one of my favourite songs of theirs.. the emotion in his voice i just love. | |

| Counting Crows – I'm Not Sleeping Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| ok, i'm confusing myself trying to interpret this all so i'm just going to say i think the 'you' is the girl he's currently with and 'she' is someone who's already in love with him and believes he would be better off with her so she's like poisoning him against his girl. he cheats with this girl and ends up losing them both and that's when he wakes up and realises what an arse he's been (i'm not sleeping anymore, i ain't all that innocent anymore) i think when he says "i see her on the t.v, movies, in my head" it means he can't forget what he's done to these girls and how he behaved. i just love how you can interpret songs just about any way you want. | |
| Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I first heard this song on the O.C (the Placebo version) and i loved it! I do like the Placebo version better but i'm really into their music. Anyhu, i think this song is about a relationship where the girl, let's say kate, is in a destructive relationship and she's denying how much it hurts her, even tho she knows she needs out. People are condemning her relationship and she wants to swap places so they'll understand the love she feels and why she can't leave. "Running up that hill, road, building etc." indicates to me a time in the future where things would be better, or would be getting better. At the moment she's standing still and "running up that hill" would be when she was moving onwards and upwards with the relationship, and problems, behind her. Wow, that actually ended up making sense. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Perfect Drug Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i always thought the song was about a relationship and i always thought that the song kinda followed the .. path of an addictive relationship. ok like first it's fun and flirty like that bit makes you wanna jump around and yell to it and then when there's the instrumental it's kinda like a huge fight the couple have. the end of the song is Trent missing the girl A LOT and wanting her to "take me with you" coz he doesn't feel complete without her. just my opinion, not saying it is that coz it annoys me incredibly when people do that.. ho hum | |
| Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| ahh, there's a lot of judging going on here when isn't the whole song sposed to be about not being judgemental.. geeesh.. maybe this is why he killed himself.. tho i agree with suicide being the most entirely selfish thing he could have done. he obvioulsy cared more about himself then his own kid. | |
| Līve – The Dolphin's Cry Lyrics | 19 years ago |
