I love this song, though the bitterness of the last few verses shifts it's meaning from what seems like fair love to something like abuse. It's bitter but still somehow feels sweet, like he's prepared to go through such pain for her. And that's what makes it so great. It's not obvious whether "Jeff" is being kind to his girl out of love, or whether he's being pushed around. And given the song it could feel like the inverse of the sentiment that ends it (in the song, his girlfriend discards his feelings in favour of her own. If he then writes the song, he may well be discarding her feelings in favour of his own). Still: neat song |

OK, I've just arrived here through looking for the lyrics and found this discussion quite interesting, so: There's a hint of the idea that it represents enlightenment (of some kind, maybe Jesus), but if that's so, it feels that the song is downplaying the effect or importance by implying that it is not as strong as it once was (failing Jason), and is infantile and pointless (being a misbegotten NITELITE). Maybe then you could pick up the idea that the firm ideas of shildhood fade in time, and this is their "plea" to stay remembered. What I was mainly interested in was whether anyone has seen the video and what people thought of it. It appears to have some odd symbology in places. The main thing that struck me is coordinated dance by people with similar masks across their eyes, with eye patterns on the outer edge, and identical "sandwich boards", one side with an eye, one declaring "Stop Rock video". As well as a variety of other symbol2 (welding masks, bicycles, "grapsing" of empty air, the shots which show only John's head, the varied lights).
