| The Methadones – Straight Up Pop Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Must be about an ex-band member. Ben Weasel or Jughead? | |
| Screeching Weasel – Talk To Me Summer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The title came from a line in the Rezillo's song "It Gets Me"--the singer says "talk to me of summer", Ben misheard it, and named the song "Talk To Me Summer" | |
| Screeching Weasel – Racist Society Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| MissNeurotic ...what makes you say that? They've got plenty of meaningful songs | |
| Screeching Weasel – Every Night Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Sequencing is genius on this album... first it's "I, Robot", where he's saying "I am a robot, I'm not human!", then leads right into this track, which starts off "I'm not feeling human anymore" From literal to figurative |
| The Queers – See You Later Fuckface Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Rumor is that this is about a confrontation SW had with Tony from Victory Records | |
| Operation Ivy – Hoboken Lyrics | 16 years ago |
haha what?! Hoboken isn't a drug spot. It's yuppie as shit. Back in the 80's though, it was a lot more dangerous, so your assessment might be right. But Hoboken is as safe as Times Square |
| Buzzcocks – Autonomy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I always thought it was "I want TRUE autonomy" "I want you autonomy" doesn't make much sense |
| Dillinger Four – MINIMUM WAGE IS A GATEWAY DRUG Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Can't believe almost a year has gone by and not one comment on this song Incredibly timely portrayal of living in modern America complete with all the economic and social pressures that go into daily life |
| Streetlight Manifesto – 1234 1234 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
@ sammirkin and ILostTheGame-- Tomas wrote those lyrics while he was in Catch 22, so unless he traveled back in time, those words were not directed at the Catch 22 lineup. Yes they have drama/tension, but this song does not address that drama/tension. If you want lyrics that DO address it, look to "A Moment of Silence/Violence" on the "Everything Goes Numb" album |
| Bouncing Souls – Better Things Lyrics | 16 years ago |
You guys should really listen to more Kinks stuff. They're obviously a huge influence on the Souls. They had that whole positive energy and uplifting spirit. Honestly, go through their catalog--I'm actually a little jealous you guys get to experience it But back to this cover. The Souls definitely do this song justice. It's almost as if it were written for them. |

| Ice Cube – It Was A Good Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| no. | |
| The Mr. T Experience – Fucked Up On Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Obviously a play on "high on life", but taking the "life as drug" metaphor to a darker place. That simple premise illuminates the conundrum of the phrase "high on life" as a positive. Anti-drug people use it as a way of saying that you don't need drugs, but the fact that they equate "high" with a good thing sort of contradicts that. Dr. Frank is, as always, way ahead of the curve on this and takes it to real interesting places. |
| Common Rider – True Rulers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yup, this is such a perfect song. Simple pop tune about breaking down the teenage fronts we put on and just being real with the one you love. This came out in 1999 when I was 17 and it resonated so huge for me. (to OneThirdOfCTW: I know you wrote that comment 6 years ago, and you're probably not around anymore, but Jesse's got a new band called "Classics of Love" (obv based on the CR song), check 'em out.) |
| 1910 Fruitgum Company – Indian Giver Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Great tune - later (possibly more famously) covered by the Ramones and Joan Jett | |
| Riverdales – I Think About You During The Commercials Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wonder why the meat head Never gets the business and the palm trees bit Should read: Wonder why meathead Never gets the business end of Archies boot (It's an "All in the Family" reference) |
| The Queers – Fuck This World Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Fuck *The* World, not Fuck *This* World (minor squabble) | |
| The Queers – Ben Weasel Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Ben Weasel co-wrote this song, by the way | |
| mu330 – Stuff Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"I'd really really REALLY like to see some lyrics up for the rest of the Press album." Agreed, someone put up Hoosier Love! |
| Riverdales – I Don't Wanna Go to the Party Tonight Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Johnny and Frank and the King will be there" Johnny = John Jughead (guitarist, Screeching Weasel) Frank = Dr. Frank aka Frank Portman (singer/songwriter/guitarist, Mr. T Experience) the King = Joe King aka Joe Queer (singer/songwriter/guitarist, The Queers) |
| The Mr. T Experience – Swallow Everything Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Great song about people relying on alcohol/drugs to keep them coasting through life. Frank has a way of mixing serious topics with humor and I'm absolutely in awe of his songwriting | |
| Ice Cube – It Was A Good Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In the song, it ends with him cutting it off and reveals that he's just daydreaming In the video, however, it ends with the SWAT team and police surrounding his house and a "To Be Continued..." Which leads to the "Check Yo Self" video, in which he's in jail |
| The Ergs – Saturday Nite Crap-O-Rama Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Another Simpsons reference in the title. | |
| Bouncing Souls – Kids & Heroes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Is this a call-out to Shal? | |
| Bouncing Souls – Kate Is Great Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The futon place was (and still is) on Hamilton St. in New Brunswick. | |
| Bouncing Souls – Joe Lies (When He Cries) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
From their DVD, THIS is the song that finally gave the Souls some direction. They consider it in many ways their first "real" song. Before this they were a free-form funk/punk/rock band that just played at parties and shit. After they wrote this one, they knew they weren't the same 2-bit party band. This was something special. |
| Bouncing Souls – I Like Your Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's just Bryan fucking around. Nothing too deep here. | |
| Bouncing Souls – For All the Unheard Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I couldn't even listen to this song all the way through the first few times I listened to this album, because it just hit me way too hard. That's the mark of an amazingly powerful song. |
| Bouncing Souls – East Coast Fuck You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
1- No need to bash any coast. Fans of the Souls should know not to take them so seriously. I mean look at the lyrics. It's silly and fun. 2- Punk rock started here in the States. And here in NYC. The Sex Pistols started their band shortly after attending a RAMONES show. 3- Good midwest punk band? Dillinger Four. Yup. |
| Bouncing Souls – East Side Mags Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ginos? (do you mean guineas?) hip hoppers? why would they be offended by this song? |

| Bouncing Souls – Bullying The Jukebox Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Are you implying that Thriller is a bad song? Or that's what you like to hear before you leave? Never, ever, front on Thriller |
| Bouncing Souls – Better Things Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is actually a cover of a Kinks song. Great tune though. |
| Streetlight Manifesto – 1234 1234 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
So as to the meaning of the song itself... This one's pretty straightforward. A kid, down on his luck, everyone kinda shitting on him, and he's trying to prove to these people that he's someone of some worth to them. Basically this song is a reality check that life is short and you've gotta make every moment count, because when you look back and see you spent your life trying to prove something to someone, you're gonna regret it. |
| Lagwagon – Heartbreaking Music Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yup, this is Lagwagon at their most personal. The whole "Resolve" album is really really well done. I didn't know it was written in 2 weeks! | |
| Weston – Running Stupid Lyrics | 19 years ago |
All-time favorite Weston song. That opening guitar riff, the chug-chug rhythm guitars, and then the awesome lyrics. Seems to be about a break-up (typical Weston), and he seems stuck in the rain and reminiscing about being in the rain with his girl. She said she'd be there for him as a friend after they broke up, but she's nowhere to be found. |
| Weston – Mr. Lazo Lyrics | 19 years ago |
After listening to this song for nearly 10 years, I actually studied the lyrics, and this sh*t's hilarious! This seems too obscure to make up, so I'm guessing it's a true story. Seems like one of his teachers got distracted by a fine lolita in class (Karen) and nearly set him on fire. The fact that they turned this into a song is genius. I love it. |
