Legendary Shack Shakers – Born Again Again Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought the chorus was

"Born again again
In an hour they'll send me back in
Guess I'm a little noncommital"

(Devastatingly written criticism of born-again Christanity by the way, just beautiful)

Also:

"iniquity" rather than "inequity"

"Putting bets around town they found"

"Down on bended knee
Bobbing like a cork up and down in the sacristy"

Though it doesn't sound much like sacristy...

Ryan Adams – Answering Bell Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the lyrics are "through your inexhausible GAZE"
and "your thunderclouds could rage WITHIN". That's just what I'd always thought though, could be wrong.

The Decemberists – Sons and Daughters Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about revolution - especially in the second and third verses, phrases like "hold our grounds" and "take up your arms" suggest to me it's more about the ordinary people rising up to take back what is theirs from a corrupt government. To me, its less about "going away" like the pilgrims to find a new world, and more about reclaiming the world we have. Especially given feeltheglee said about Colin wanting it to influence people's votes. Even though nothing specific about modern politics is mentioned, I really see this as a protest song against the Iraq War, calling all those who are sick of it and want the bombs to fade away to get out and make it happen.

Marah – The Dishwasher's Dream Lyrics 19 years ago
This is rock n roll poetry at is finest, as good as Dylan, full stop. I love the "nightmarish side of the bed" lyrics, I get a really vivid image of the fear manifesting itself physically all around the girl as they both sleep next to each other. And I like the image of the burners throwing heat, and rhyming "thoughts" with "pots". There's just some really sophisticated and unusual turns of phrase in Marah's lyrics, its one of the reasons why I love them.
