Generally speaking, it sounds to me like some kind of anti-government/anti-religion/anti-capitalism message. As for the semantics, I'm not quite sure. Either way, the message of this song makes it that much more killer. |

Not all HIP-HOP (I use that term strongly here) songs are about the stereotypical bullshit that the media beats you in the head with everyday. There was a time when HIP-HOP was used as a means of communication and lyricists conveyed their ideas to help progress and overall social change. (I.E. Public Enemy, Rakim a lot of old school really) This song, more or less, talks about fear of police brutality and a willingness to stand up to the sometimes unfair treatment police use on undeserving citizens. Even though the message isn't conveyed the way people MOST people would like...it still has a fucking point. |

It's refreshing to see bands sing with positive undertones to their lyrics and still be intense, depressing songs get boring after a while. Other than that, I think the meaning is pretty evident and can apply to anyone who's gone through a rough patch in their life, but they don't let it get them down,and they learn from the experiences so that they don't screw up the chance to redeem themselves later on down the line and ultimately don't make the same mistakes again. I swear when I first saw the lyrics to this song I said "HOLY SHIT! This is it!" Yep, that's never happened before so I might have found the song that every person might say "this totally describes my life". Awesome song...Edge chose a really good theme (WWE Raw, by the way, is where I first heard it...didn't think much of it at the time though) |
