| Neutral Milk Hotel – Oh Comely Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This part: The movements were beautiful All in your ovaries All of them milking with green fleshy flowers While powerful pistons were sugary sweet machines Smelling of semen all under the garden Was all you were needing when you still believed in me I always imagine he's talking about someone walking through a garden. Ovaries and pistons are plant parts. "Smelling of semen" would be the pollen of plants. I think in "Communist Daughter" when he sings "Semen stains the mountaintops", he's singing of pollen as well. He uses a lot of plant references, such as in Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone, "The gardenhead knows my name." Perhaps being in nature is very peaceful and makes one introspective. |

| I read in an interview that this song was about a man in a hospital who falls in love with the nurse tending to him. The poppyseed refers to the morphine that she administers to him. | |

| I relate a lot to this song. It's basically about life going wrong but instead of being miserable about it, just sucking it up and getting on with life, because at least you have each other. | |
