They start their first song. He needs a rythym. "Good, good, now we're making some progress Come on just tap, tap, tap your toes to the beat" They're making progress on the song. The tapping toes thing just adds to keeping time and the beat. "And I believe This may call for a proper introduction," They're introducing the song to the world. "And well Don't you see? I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue" I think "I'm" stands for all of Panic!, as weird as that sounds. The prologue - their start. "Swear to shake it up, and you swear to listen" Talking to a sponsor, about to sing their song for him. They swear to make it better (Shake it up), if he listens to them. "Oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives" Firstly, they are still young, and they really want him to listen, and maybe get a record deal of some sort with him. Not a clue what the other line means. "Applause, applause, no, wait, wait Dear studio audience, I've an announcement to make It seems the artists these days are not who you think So we'll pick back up on that on another page" The sponsor listened, and now they're big. People clap for them, wherever they go. They tell them to listen to their announcement. They say that modern day artists are really not who you think (Duh.), and media changes you a lot. But then, the people don't care about what they have to say anymore... So they just say, "Okay... We'll talk about that some other time". And they go back to their superstar lives. |

My interpretation. "Now I'm of consenting age to be forgetting you in a cabaret" A caberet - reference to a strip club somewhere, obviously. "Somewhere downtown where a burlesque queen may even ask my name" So we find out that the strip club's downtown. Nothing too great. Then they use burlesque in two sense, I think. One: Leading him on, Two: Her staginess (if that is a word) which references her to being a stripper (the stage). He thinks he might get lucky with her. "As she sheds her skin on stage I'm seated and sweating to a dance song on the club's P.A." Her feather boa (if anyone has seen the music video) starts shedding on him. He's sweating because he's not too sure if he wants to do this anymore, while her stripping song plays on the P.A. "The strip joint veteran sweeps you away Smirking between dignified sips of his dignified peach and lime daiquiri" The club owner is smiling because he knows what's going through the guy's head. He's drinking a peach and lime daiquiri, too, but that has nothing to do with anything. "d isn't this exactly where you'd like me I'm exactly where you'd like me, you know" If you've ever seen the video, you'd know that the guy actually walked out on his lover, and went to this club. So he's pretty much talking to her in his head, because she's pretty P.O.'ed at him (For what reason? I don't know, I haven't watched the video recently). "Praying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivety Oh, and isn't this exactly where you'd like me I'm exactly where you'd like me, you know" He really wants to screw this stripper, but he knows he won't (Hence him being naive). And then repaet of the intrepretation above. "Praying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivety" Repeat. Again. "Oh, but I'm afraid that I Well, I may have faked it" Again, talking to his lover in his head. He's afraid that he never really did love her. "And I wouldn't be caught dead in this place" He's a very "Goody-Goody Two-Shoes" and nobody would expect him to be there. "Well I'm afraid that I Well that's right That I may have faked it" He's pretty confident about it, now. "And I wouldn't be caught dead in this place" Repeat. "Praying for love and paying in naivety" Repeat again. That one was really easy. |

I dont think anyone has made any meaning to: "Raindrops on roses and the girls in white dresses And the sleeping with the roaches and the taking best guesses At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains And a few more of your least favorite things" The first line is obviously referenced from Sound of Music. "Sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses" Reference to the constable telling her to have sex with him, in exchange for hushing. He was guessing that she was a hooker, since the lawyer paid her. "The shade of the sheets before all the stains" The "hooker"/"virgin" is reminiscing on what her life was, before she got caught up on all of this prostitution business. "And a few more of your least favorite things" KEYWORD: YOUR. Panic! wants you to feel bad for her by adding in things you hate. And so they got us thinking. |
