My Halfass Blow by Blow Commentary/Interpratation How love can conquer The most reluctant souls I'll take my chances If you give back what you stole (She's not used to the whole relationship thing, but she'll give it a try because she's already fallen) Let me give you a spade To dig your merry hole I dig your smile too and you dug my poker face (They are entering the relationship but she already knows that it's going to be a disaster, his "merry hole," a much nicer phrase for his grave.) I couldn't get in so Threw stones at your window Love like an arrow The arrow has left its bow (Eyes are the window to the soul and all that...he won't let her in emotionally, so all they do is fight.) Travelling overseas I'm missing my sweet pea Airports and Handkerchiefs and broken families (Even so, when she's away from him, she misses him) On the Bridge To Canada I wish you'd fall but not drown On the Bridge To Canada Yes I would wear you like a crown (She's frustrated with him, "falling" but not "Drowning" suggests that although he aggravates her, she still loves him) I threw the dice on you Went very far away Some people they don't hurt Just in it for the chase 0-7-9-5-6-0, 1-2-3-4 deleted numbers, but remembered to the core (she took a chance on him...left...he doesn't seem as emotionally invested in the relationship...perhaps cheating while she's away...blah) Maybe disappointments Must be our appointment Naive and hyper Now I can't decipher (Maybe the relationship is just doomed to fail...at first she was just so in love and excited but now he just confuses and frustrates her) Before you close the curtains Be sure that you're certain When losing your patience For flirtation and free loving (warning him that if he really wants to close the curtain on the relationship, he should make sure that he prefers the life of a bachelor to being with ~her~) "You lost your PASSPORT!! You lost your HEAD!!! You lost your PASSPORT!! Have you lost your HEAD???!!" You're waking up in a foreign bed (wtf, is he crazy for not picking her? is that motherfucker crazy?) On the Bridge To Canada I wish you'd fall but not drown On the Bridge To Canada Yes I would wear you like a crown On the Bridge To Canada I wish that you could see me now On the Bridge To Canada I'll play the fool but not your Clown On the Bridge To Canada "I hear the band have just left town" On the Bridge To Canada How I miss you now On the Bridge To Canada You can wear me like a frown On the Bridge To Canada (oh how I will) Play the fool in this lucky town On the Bridge To Canada I hope that you are happy now On the Bridge To Canada I'll play the fool but not your clown (they broke up she's sad and misses him but knows that he was just playing her for a fool) |

| Larrikin Love – Six Queens Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think both verses about two different people. I think the first is quite obviously about a young, awkward, homosexual boy who grows up and moves to New York and becomes a prostitute, in a nutshell. The second gives me the impression of a middle aged man working in a corporate office who has always secretly yearned to be a woman. After much research on the whole deal he finally made the jump, so to say. While both characters are happy, in a sense, they're also quite tragic. |

| Larrikin Love – Edwould Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think that Edward is talking to/about himself, the self that creates his music. I think this song is expressing a lot of the insecurities he has as a musician and songwriter, and his creation of "Edward Larrikin" in order to express what he himself maybe cannot. At the same time, even though Edward Larrikin is like...this character he's made up, he realizes that the character is very much more "him" than he actually is. Maybe he feels that he isn't "as good" or "good enough." Lines that give some inkling of this are: "I've penned your poison a thousand times..." "Am I you are you me..." "Are you really, really that witty..." "Eddie is just a chance to be fake..." "A little joke to promote my own...but it's the most truth your ears know..." |

| Muse – Citizen Erased Lyrics | 18 years ago |

It says on the Muse Wiki that the song is about Matt's constantly being asked questions about his purpose, and his struggle with having to answer these questions. He feels that, after these things are put into print, he's already changed his mind and there is no way he can really explain or describe to people how he feels about his work. After reviewing the lyrics, I really feel that this is what the song is about, at least in some aspects. The lyrics seem to suggest that he feels trapped, forced to fit into people's ideals of who he should be. But then. Maybe not. |

Initially when I listened to this song, I too gott the sense that he has sort of a split personality, and is fighting himself in a way. But after really reading the lyrics, I definietly agree with everyone who thinks it's about his father. It's kind of a smack in the face. I think the general gist of the song is Matt telling this father that he's nothing to him, that he doesn't accept all the excuses, and he wants him to know that his abscense makes no difference to him anymore. He just doesn't care. Whatever love he had for his father is gone, he's taking back "all the things" that he said. But at the same time, he feels almost a little disgusted with himself because he sees a lot of himself in his father, essentially they are the same person and he doesn't want that. Anyway that's my two cents. |

| Larrikin Love – Meet Me By The Getaway Car Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think this song is maybe about someone the speaker has met, who has become sort a getaway for them to a new world, somewhere outside the city, somewhere more simple. There's no stress, no responsibilities, you're your own boss. But I think this song is also nostalgic, the little holiday or getaway is over and now all they have is memories. The relationship with that special person who helped them escape from the city mentality didn't work out, and now the speaker is almost desperate for it all again, though. I'm not good at explaining myself? |

| Muse – Unintended Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Initially, I wasn't a fan of this song. I sort of glazed over it. But when you listen to it, it sort of gets under your skin. Matt's voice sounds so...innocent? It's sort of haunting. Beautiful song. | |

This is honestly one of if not THE BEST cover I have heard in a while. Seriously. Whenever it gets to the part where Matt sings, "While you spend your life in sin and misery..." I get chills. He gives this gutteral wail that is just...amazing. Wow. /obsess |
