| Rilo Kiley – The Absence of God Lyrics

here's my opinion.
the concept of the song is that living a secular life will "bring you comfort," in that it frees you from the confines of religion.
jenny is emphasizing that, while her friends are living bohemian, secular lifestyles, she is realizing that there is has got to be something bigger out there in order to reconcile the careless lives they have been living. |

| Parenthetical Girls – Love Connection, Pt. II Lyrics

i feel that both parts make more sense as being from a girl's perspective, but part ii is especially told be a girl. "there's blood between my legs" is a dead giveaway. also, "sore below the waist" clearly only applies to a girl. |

| The Long Blondes – Once and Never Again Lyrics

this song is neither told from a man's perspective, nor does it have any kind of lesbian persuasion.
"feel a girl your age" has nothing to do with physically feeling anything. the long blondes are british. it's just a typically british way of saying "feeling LIKE a girl your age." also, "come out with me," and "you'll only have to do it once," are not related at all. "you only have to do it once," references how you only have to be nineteen once.
i think it's very probable that this could be told from the perspective of a mother or perhaps (but seemingly less likely) a much older sister. "you know I'm not so young/ i spend an hour getting ready every day/ and still I end up looking more or less the same/ but I could show you a thing or two." basically, the mom is saying that even though she's "not so young" anymore and she might seem out-of-touch with what her daughter's going through, she still remembers what it was like to be a young person experiencing love/lust for the first time. she's telling her daughter that she shouldn't put so much energy into worrying about this particular guy because she has so much more that she can still experience. |

god, talk about over-analysis. you guys are thinking way too far into this. the song is completely innocent. she goes to the disco with her friend and the pearl necklace she took from her mother broke.
the end. |

| Wolf Parade – You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son Lyrics
| 19 years ago

i agree that the son realizes that his life is going on the same track as his father's. the "number" on him is his fate. he wakes up in the morning feeling like a "hero," thinking he can change his fate, but he can't "make it through the high noon sun" without realizing that there's nothing he can do about it. he is jealous of the "runner" because the "runner" creates his or her own destiny. |
