To me, it sounds like a young politician becoming tempered by the system. People set out with genuine passions and ambitions, only to realize how rigged the entire thing is (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington). They fall into the pitfalls of internal affairs, manipulated like a puppet by party lines. They’ll do anything to gain political leverage, and it will drown the honesty out of a man of integrity. Break away from that, and let those fools have their sh*t show. |

I'm thinking along the same lines as SilverDew.
To me it's about the bliss of ignorance that keeps us from seeing the stark realities of life. The dark hides both fear and deed and all that remain are subtle details. |

| The Phoenix Foundation – Bright Grey Lyrics

Paint your beautiful face, talk about it on Facebook. Oh, and what do you think of Margaret Boyle? Am I supposed to care? It ain't easy to be mellow in a mobile, information overloaded, over-stimulated, ADD world. The song is a beautiful mission statement setting aside all of the bright yellow and orange distractions and cutting to the core of being one's self. I also consider that a performing artist might feel pulled in a thousand different directions to an even greater degree.
I guess that's one of the best things about true art. It could mean something completely different to them, or to you. Whatever it is, it's an emotionally-charge anthem of declaration and the world is better off for having Phoenix Foundation in it. |

Heard this on bFM Auckland internet radio and it quickly became a favorite. Did he steal his dad's Telecaster to get that riff down? |

Whatever happened to Sinead Lohan? This song reminds me of just about any old Cary Grant / Audrey Hepburn movie, without the witty banter and requisite happy ending. |

Seems like this is about a person who has uprooted and taken to wandering... "passing through". What has been left behind is something valuable... "people like you are far too few". The fleeting comforts found are not enough to "cure this homesick disease". The trees falling before the leaves, departing home before something came to fruition. |

Mean girl, in-between girl... she often ends up being seen as a "mean girl" (she is misunderstood?) possibly because of her boldness or assertiveness? In between girl could mean being used by someone as a rebound, or she ends up in relationships that are more about convenience than commitment. "Somebody's" is a possessive statement, to me that implies her acknowledging being hurt.
Just guesses based on party girls I've known. Whatever it means to her, it's a shite state of affairs, tho not uncommon.
Funny, I always thought her Valium had come from "the bra", where she had it hidden. |
