Definately a political song and it's about our current state right here in the US and how politicians like Bush (The devils among us) and all th eworthless congress are just f-ucking the people at every turn.
But it's also saying we are so dumb that we won't unite and we don't really care (apathy) that the government is screwing us so we will all burn for it. |

This is a bonus track off the new album.
I say it's about being true to yourself until the day you die and not selling your soul for anything. |

"I was me, but now he's gone"
This song is about conformity and suicide. It's about a certain time when he onced lived and now it's all gone and has been taken away. He has no other choice but to conform as the others have done. Or be ridiculed as a freak or has been. He must conform or he will have no friends, no women, nothing. He is forced to sell his soul, his values, his attitude, and everything that was him to live the life that society tells you to live. Conform or die. Now he feels he has no choice but to let the end or the gun barrel end his life, because there is nothing more for him.

It's obvious the song is based on the film and war but I'm going to go for another meaning as well.
This could be about a person who is also at war with himself. That he's lived a certain life for so long and now that things have changed and his way of life long forgotten things are no longer what they used to be. He is waking up and he can't see what way to go from here.
Society has condemned him for his old ways and looks and he can only feel guilt. Yet he can not conform because his past haunts him. He cannot regonize who he is in a mirror if he was to change. Therefore he is trapped in his own hell. He cannot truly live and he can't take his own life. He is trapped in his own self in a different time period. They've taken his soul and therefore everything else. |

This song is about being stuck in one place. About having a side of yourself you can't express because the people who surround you. They keep that person trapped in what they can and can't do beacuse of the laws of conformity with in groups or society.
This song is to the fans who can't accept his new direction. Thtat hey expect him to hae the same hardcore sound every album with no change. This song is about breaking through barriers and not caring about them anymore. The old fans by this time have ditched Slipknot for supposed more hardcore bands and "True Metal" bands like Slayer and what ever. |

This song is about standing against the world's values of greed and self-indulgence. There is no inspiration and no room to be an individual. Just a pack of mindless dogs back stabbing each other and labeling each other in their mindless gossip. In this world you must conform or die, or atleast that's what they want you to believe. This song is a big fuck you to all of that and is Slipknot's national anthem. |

The song is about how the system is set up. The rich thrive and prosper off of your taxes , off of your paychecks, and your consumerism while the middle class pays for everything and suffers.
"I can't help but wonder why we should participate?"
If you are working just survive from pay check to pay check what kind of life is that? Is that freedom? Or is that just conforming to what the rich want, to what the government wants each of us to do, to what society says? The singer understands he's not alone but there is too many gutless people out there that won't speak out, who are not willing to change the system. |
