| Phoenix Mourning ā Across Twenty Six Winters Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Yeah, i think depressedsoul is right. There might be a bit more to the song though, that explains why it happened. "I tried to explain to you all of my callous ways. But I can no longer justify that my past was to blame. As methodically as the seasons will always change. I would tear off my facade and replace it with a new face. And each time a new scar would surface for me to remember. That it's been twenty six winters and I still have not surrendered." Obviously, this individual is strongly opinionated and has strong beliefs. The partner is apathetic, and doesn't care; therefore betraying him. This is his way of revenge for all she has put him through. She is now dead to him, but 26 winters later, his beliefs are still stronger than the love they had. Also, by the end of the song, he has adapted the apathetic nature of his partner, and has given up trying to change her ways; and gives in and abandons his efforts to fix her. "Your apathy does not go unnoticed. And Iām sorry but they all see through you. Finally face to face. And finally this ends today" |

This song is amazing. Best on the album i think. I think this song is about love, and its (possible) extremely negative nature. It seems that while one person is working towards love, the other couldn't care less and has ended up selfishly killing themself. (this could be taken either literally or metaphorically) In turn, the other persona has also taken their own life. (again, actually died, or given up the person they are) The end of the song is explaining why the events played out like they did. "As we aspired to be more Your love remained a revolving door And as we proceeded, I gave you all you needed But in your eyes the sky was falling This door no longer revolving" While one person was working for it, the other was being selfish and lived for themselves, giving up the love that was built. The ironic comment "Isn't love bliss?" Is meant to draw the song to a climax, and emphasise the fact that love is often not bliss. The chorus is about making the most of what you're given, and saying that you need to cherish the moment (and each other) to make things work. |
