I interpret this song as a just a mind altering take on hell. Maybe Jeff was just playing with the idea of hell not being so bad. Maybe he is just messing with our ideologies.
Chrome is interesting because I believe the Amish are not allowed to have chrome on anything. They believe it is a sign of vanity and sinful. I'm not Amish so correct me if I'm wrong. |

I agree with mali its not about drugs. Its about heart break and dealing with it. You know how it feels. Your just like give me anything to take the pain away. Not a literal shot of heroin. Although I could quite possibly be a dumbass. |

This song is confusing because of the two people speaking and you can't really tell who is saying what. I always thought of it as from the line "or maybe all you mean is leave me alone" on the song is not the narrator but the other lover.
I don't know if I'm just hearing things but it sounds like on the studio album tweedy says "YOU thought it was cute for you to kiss my..." Not "I thought it was cute for you to kiss..." Just curious if anyone else hears that? He definitely says "I" in all the love versions I've heard.
Hands down the best song on Ghost in my opinion. Tweedy says in the wilco book that he can't help crying when the guitar comes in because it sounds like a panic attack. |
