The last line has been bugging me, so I did some research. It's not "Oh, liberdad mi amor" "Amor" means love in lots of languages, so no doubts there. In Spanish and Italian the possessive "my" it's "mi" and "mio" and she clearly says the "meh" sound and not the "mee" sound! In Portuguese it's "meu" and that sounds like "meh", especially followed by "amor"! "Liberdad" (freedom in Spanish) could be "liberdade" in Portuguese or "libertate" (free yourself in Spanish) or "liberta-te" (free yourself in Portuguese). But what I really think she's saying, after hours of research is: "O libertat meum amor" in LATIN! It means "O he/she/it frees my love". And the use of "O" in the beginning points even more to Latin! It sounds exactly like "oh liberta-te meu amor" meaning "O free yourself my love" in Portuguese. But given the rest of the lyrics' religious context it makes more sense that it'd be Latin. One more thing, though. She says "agro" in another part of the song and though the word does exist in Latin (and Portuguese and Spanish), it's not really used like that...but it does fit perfectly with a language I understand almost nothing about: Ladino (Judeo-Spanish). In Ladino, love is "amor" like the previous languages, freedom is "Lbrtţ" and it reads about the same as the above. And "yours" is "tu" like in Spanish so it makes sense that the sentence could be read the same way as above but it's actually Ladino. The song does sound a bit Jewish...! Any Hebrew speakers out there that could help? |
