i think D0pamEn's interpretation is my favorite so far, but that's wot makes this song so deep, that it can be interpreted very meaningfully in so many ways. i like to think of the song as kind of threatening, like a warning against religion (or maybe something bigger) like "light a roman candle, and hold it in your hand" i like to think of as: candle=religion, and the roman candle firework is like the danger of holding a firework and blowing ur hand off, like threatening u to conform to religion and watch it take everything away deep song |

i partially agree with the people saying its about a bad relationship, but it's a relationship with Jesus, or more broadly, religion (which is often a subject of chris' lyrics) like putting so much into it, and getting nothing back ('virgin eyes' could also be a reference to virgin mary). i came to this conclusion when b4 the live version chris said it was dedicated to Jesus Christ, and half-way through the song he sings "jesus is my friend". |

i think its personifying the hatred in mankind, and its told in 1st person frm this viewpoint, kind of mockinly as the world falls apart, like: "When the whole thing comes crashing down, Don't ask me why" and : "I'm the wreck of you, I'm the death of you all " its about the world falling apart frm decadence, while the singer "wont pretend" to care |
