Yes, it does seem to be about escaping some horrible situation. But the song isn't about a happily ever after- the place you're escaping to is just as dark. It's also about overcoming your past. "Fly into the light of the dark black night." The dark black night doesn't sound full of hope and promise- but if even pitch black is lighter than where you are now, it's something you have to escape. It's also about learning to overcome your past- taking the broken parts of you and learning to still use them. It's all about salvage and change, and I love it because it echoes real life. Just because you break free doesn't mean you are free. it's a cold world out there. |
