| The Smiths – That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore Lyrics

this is a beautiful song morrissey wrote in the romantic tradition. "you should know/time's tide will smother you" wow immediately he's coming from a point of prolonged anguish. perhaps such prolonged anguish that he/she can't help but feel less lonely surrounded by other people's stories of sadness.
love how marr just jangles along with these perfect lyrics. the music just fits in perfectly.
fukin great one Smiths! |

| Jeff Buckley – Opened Once Lyrics

This song like pretty much 90% of Sketches... I could listen to forever because Jeff was such an incredibly moving songwriter. It took me a while to see it, but perhaps the poem/lyrics is a persona poem of Tim Buckley, where Jeff tries to be empathetic from his father's point of view, "I loved a sweet guy..." meaning his son. And the last lines perhaps signify the pain both father and son feel now. Such a beautifully sad song. |
