Thought there would be more comments about this song? To me its a combination of his heroin addiction and how he uses it to escape pain and past loves... "my friend and me (him and the heroin) Looking through her red box of memories... Like Benjo says, love sticking iin her veins is the heroin he uses to replace what he has lost... He makes reference to 'my lord' a lot indicating he is lost and looks for help, not only with her, but with the struggle to control himself and his addiction.. I love this song and whether or not the above is correct its a lovely song to relate to unrequited love, but when you never fully give up hope! |

I aggre with Simon... It merely a metaphor for life/existence. No matter how brightly you shine, or how spectacular you are in this current life, whether it be around your friends or on a global scale (fame)... inevitabely you burn out and die.... The casting opinions at people who need them makes reference to the here and now ... Things move and you're forgotten to some extent, quite a simplistic song lyrically but very profound when you ponder over it. I like his voice and the guitar in this track! |

Just been to see Scott in concert... He is UNBELIEVEABLE LIVE! This song means a lot to me when I adapt his lyrics to my situation. To me its about two people made for each other, had a taste of what it should be, but its a bannished relationship - Cant happen. People dont see the beauty in the woman that he does, but he has to let her go and not persue her stop the pain. They spend a lot of time thinking of each other and he shows this in the verse: Taking down, on your way. A million miles, still no headway. As I learn to live long, In a mind I'm proud to roam. His delight at being in her thoughts and his pain as he learns to live without her.. He spends a lot of time living in his head and she haunts his thoughts, especially at night... "shes elusive and im awake"..... he cant stop trying to figure out a way to be with her. He knows how good they were and questions if there is much point to anything without her |

For me this song is about despair and hopelessness in life. Its about the on e thing that seems so significant at the time it will make or break u. "if i'd only waited"... he made a decision that he didnt think about fully and its cost him big time. A lot has come crashing down. thing is not many people realise becasue as the song says he's living in secrets... The second verse is his response to himself... he tried to wait, he really did.. it was too powerful to pass up though. The attraction to whatever he did is so overpowering its taken control of him... a bittersweet feeling. lovely, yet scarey as the people around him judge him for it... He feels he needs to escape to make people realise he is a good person, but part of him enjoys the pain.. friends pick up on the pain, but he brushes it off "its no cause for concern".... but hes willing them to figure it out.. knowing he cant burdon them with the news.. "dead on the surface, but im screaming underneath"... there is further reference at the end of the song it finally gets too much and he wants to give up...and starts to get angry at the world... Stuck on the end Of this ball and chain And I'm on my way back down again Stood on the edge Tied to the noose Sick to the stomach You can say what you mean But it won't change a thing I'm sick of the secrets Stood on the edge Tied to the noose But you came along and you cut me loose There is a saviour, whether its drugs or a person is up to u to interpret... for me its the person that was the "mistake" he will be judged for... Oh I think its "you can say what you mean but it wont change a SIN.... im sick of the secrets... SIN being what he did wrong |
