Parkway Drive – Dead Man's Chest Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a pretty straightfoward song; you'll pay for your actions.

This song also makes me want to get in a fight with the biggest guy I see.

Goatwhore – Alchemy of the Black Sun Cult Lyrics 19 years ago
I enjoyed the screamer's scream.. sounded really nice.. and the guitar riffs and drum fills as well.

Then I read the lyrics and it basically slapped all my beliefs in the face.

Sorry Goatwhore.

In Flames – Dismiss the Cynics Lyrics 19 years ago
A cynic is someone who belives that selfishness motivates mankinds and discourages selfless acts.

Most likely this song is about letting go of selfishness and putting up with the consequences of selflessness - not sure, I just skimmed over the lyrics, so I'm probably wrong.

Whatever.

Norma Jean – A Small Spark Vs. a Great Forest Lyrics 19 years ago
I love how they composed this song entirely in a 3/4 time signature.. very unusual and highly creative for a metal/hardcore/metalcore song.

In Flames – Metaphor Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe that this song is about a struggle with drugs Ander had when he wrote this song.
To me, the lyrics are set (and sound) as if he's having a dialogue with someone or something. In the song, the first 2 lines of the verses are Anders singing with an effect over the mic that makes him sound distant and dreamy, almost weak, yet when he says "let me in, i'll bury the pain" it takes a different sound, both clear and with a beautiful harmony - the words "bury the pain" sound to me like a buffer, not a divine intervention that would purge it from him, but a quick escape from what's causing him pain, perhaps what lured him to accept the drug in the first place.

"You stole my pure intentions.
You are the sickness in between.
Let me in, I’ll bury the pain." - his pure intentions were probably his thinking that a drug would be a casual matter, nothing to worry about, yet it's become the sickness between him and perhaps his loved ones, yet the drugs simply tell him "let me in, i'll bury the pain"

"You taught me to be sad as you.
You almost made me take it all.
Let me in, I’ll bury the pain." - this line is somewhat hazy to me, yet it sounds like the drug broke him down into something "sad", and "take it all" could perhaps symbolize suicidal intentions, yet the drug still says "let me in, i'll bury the pain"

"The sickness that you are,
a plague that made me starve.
Do you think you can show me,
how I got this far?" - I think the chorus is describing the drug as a plague and a sickness; he wonders how he made it this far with it without it destroying him or causing him to destroy himself

"You bend me and you shake me,
you beg me then you break me.
Let me in, I’ll bury the pain" - I believe the bending and shaking is part of the addiction, without it he feels bent and shaken, not normal; the drug "begs" him, his addiction is calling to him, yet after he takes it, he becomes broken once more, making him feel worse and worse

"You made me feel like a sinner.
Now you fear you’ll die alone.
Let me in, I’ll bury the pain" - Once again, I had trouble thinking of the meaning of this line, but I believe that feeling "like a sinner" is how the drug made him feel - terrible, yet the drug once more says "let me in, i'll bury the pain"

"I feel it’s taking over,
and everything falls dark.
Break me open, the desperate cry." - Anders now feels that he's given the drug too much ground, that it's "taking over" and making him feel that "everything falls dark"; "break me open" - a plea to end the pain, take him out of his struggle by suicide - the desperate cry is his beg for mercy, a beg to be taken away from this life

Those are my interpretations of the song to the best of my ability. Most likely, my interpretation is either wrong in every entirety or barely scratching the surface of the song's true meaning, but judging by the sound of his voice and the strong harmony at "let me in, i'll bury the pain" i believe it's an allusion/flashback to a struggle with drugs he's had many times; I also believe that the instruments in the song definately contrast with the lyrics, maybe in an attempt to accentuate Ander's lost feeling.

ANYWAY - please tell me what you think of my interpretation!
