This is about lusting after someone he can't have. He is afraid of open water- afraid of the consequences of going through with his desires, but.. He often baths in sin- meaning he stills thinks/imagines being with her, though he knows in reality it would be wrong. There was always warmth between them- there is definate chemistry, but.. He knows in all honesty that there is no point in giving into eachother, because it will destroy everything eachother has. Their relationship, her relationship with her partner, his relationship with her partner.. it is really impossible to win in that kind that of situation. Nothing worse than not being able to have what you want, though it would be absolutely perfect. |

I have always been extremely close with my brother. We never fought or argued, until one day many, many years ago. Of course, it was something ridiculous.. but we didn't speak to eachother for 2 weeks. One day i found a CD labelled 'Lauren' on it in my room. I put it into my CD drive, opened the file & the live version Antony performed on David Letterman started playing. Naturally, I was reduced to tears & have ever since, everytime I hear this song :) We never fought since :) |

I always thought it was about being in denial of addiction. But above it all, he 'can't see nothing wrong inside of [him]', because he feels he functions better. It's almost like he is justifying the kind of person he is through Daddy G's verse. *shrugs* =) great song! |

actually, I had 2 theories! The happy theory of childbirth, OR perhaps a death or complications during childbirth. If the latter were accurate, than feeling herself fade/feeling as though she doesn't belong/leaving the countryside.. all point to her feeling as though the complications could either endanger her childs life or her own, in which case, her childs life is far more significant than her own. If the former were accurate, than childbrith/motherhood has meant that her own thoughts/fears/concerns about her life have faded in relation to the significance of her childs. She will try & catch her own vibe by maintaining her essence, but she doesn't know what motherhood will being. Who will be be? Regardless, she has no regrets as it's her choice & RIGHT as a woman to become a mother. Also.. I personally have never heard the lyrics 'look at that, feel bad', but rather 'look at that dear girl'. I don't know if anyone agrees, but I have never thought of this as a sad song, but a very modest one about feeling content, knowing there is something far more important than yourself! |

I always felt this song was about childbirth. Aphrodite, lifting up her dress & child, feeling herself fading, feeling like she doesn't belong in comparison to 'that girl', loving 'design', etc.. It's about the wonderful realization that once your child is born, all focus on yourself & your own wants/needs shifts to your child, who becomes infinitely more significant than yourself.. Anyway, this song is possibly THE best song ever written. EVER =) |

the singer is reflecting upon some of his recent actions with regret, as what he has been doing could jepodise a particular friendship.. he keeps pushing the boundries & skating on thin ice, but suspects that this friend is slipping away from him. thus he is 'drowning' his sorrows, but it makes him feel the way he did 'yesterday'- i suspect it makes him feel bad as he states he feels like sinking/fading away. awesome song!! beautiful melody!! |

'Sleepers can't just wake the dead, When needles and lovers, Collapse on guilty beds' - you can't really help someone who constinuously to their addiction 'Is this a life left just to remember' - they are dead/dying. A life to remember instead of a life being lived 'They lied when they said that the good die young' - drugs are often considered bad/evil. The 'bad' ones die prematurely to drugs 'She's still asleep in the Chelsea hotel, Bad turns to worse, And the worse turns into hell' - they are falling into a coma & starting to OD. |

i feel that: 'Bright Eyes' is about death and wat it feels like to die- or a near death experience. the narrator is asking is this death, am i dying? is this wat death feels like? or am i dreaming? Am i really floating out on a tide? is this a dream? am i floating on the river of death? or it is a dream? He can see a strange glow- a possibly white light? no1 knows wat happens after death, so is THIS wat it feels like? what does all this beautiful imagery mean? am i dying or am i dreaming? the chorus is a definate reference 2 the idea of dying. how can soemthign be so bright and alive and then suddenly die? of course the lyrics: "And nobody ever knows when you go. And where do you start, Oh, into the dark?" where do we go wen we die? how does death feel? where does it start? ------- Watership Down is a beautiful, disturbing, excellent, moving movie. I used 2 b scared 2 watch it, but its beautiful & SOOOO worth it. ESPECIALLY the 'Bright Eyes' part. Stunningly sad. The movie really reflects the song also--> hazel is dying & this song is asking where or how life ends and death starts. SEE THE MOVIE! LISTEN 2 TH SONG! =) totally worth it! |
