I love what Serj has done with his album... In nearly all the songs, he uses love as a metaphor for the way we're all killing ourselves, each other, and the planet. He takes such a cold, harsh reality and wraps it in emotion, and the result sometimes sounds melodramatic but is always beautiful and powerful. |

Everyone making points about the song being non-political has interesting ideas behind it, and everyone saying it's very political is just as well-supported. |

I know. I love Mastodon, they're basically Metal for Nerds, because I don't like your typical Slayer, etc sort of metal, but I listened to Blood Mountain and was just like, "Holy crap. Lots of thrasy goodness and yet there's masterminding too! EEE!"
Also, nobody gives Brann Dailor enough credit. He's basically Jesus to me, since I only do school-band-type drums with written music and strict rhythm patterns. His style is kept so carefully in check, and that restraint makes it beautiful. It's not fudgy, he's got perfect rhythm. |

I don't like to hyper-analyze songs like these... I prefer to appreciate them as whole musical pieces, and tend to take in the general tone of the vocals and lyrics as opposed to an actual storyline. I did get the impression that the album followed a story, but not as clearly as with leviathan. Inobservant? Totally. Lazy? Not really. Borderline Asperger's disorder? Yep, I'm retardedish... so I have issues with figuring out music... |

The annoying thing about MSI lyrics for an OCD person like me (I love MSI because their stuff is always mixed to be perfectly on-beat, which makes me super-happy in an age of craptastic musicianship) is that the lyrics are inconsistent between editions of albums. My little booklet thing in my copy of Another Mindless Rip Off is different from the one posted here, but your lyrics sound fine, too. |

I'm 13 and seem to be one of perhaps 4 or 5 people my age in the entire fucking STATE who can grasp the irony that absolutely soaks our lives, especially our social lives. It's either sad, or, if you appreciate MSI and live life "with tongue firmly in cheek," disturbingly funny. This song IS my middle school. It's a fairly major deviation from the MSI norm, but I heard it and immediately loved it.
Now, let me sit back (and do the first-comment dance) while everyone else calls me a "fucking gay/lesbian/poser/child/etc" ad nauseum. And yes, I'm always this patronizing to people who judge me for being a "foolish lil poser kiddie." |

Hey, I used to chew the skin around my fingernails, too. It's very much a bad habit, just like cutting. I would gnaw at them until they bled, tearing out huge chunks of skin (always with my teeth though). Still, the song is open to interpretation. It's not transparent. Let the debate rage! |
