This song is so much fun! When I went to see Damien Rice in concert, he described this as being one of his most upbeat songs (or something along those lines), and I thought the same thing the first time I heard it. I like Wootfest's interpretation of this song too. To me it's just advice telling someone to just go for it and to relax--don't waste time "asking everyone else's permission," or "wait for ages," just be yourself. |

I like this song--it's sweet and pretty. I also think it's about jealousy--maybe about a friend of his he's in love with, who already has a boyfriend (another friend?). It kind of reminds me of "Cheers Darlin'"--not the tone or structure, but just the meaning. |

I don't really have much to add to the interpretation of the song--I think people have summed it up pretty well--but I wanted to say that I don't think the swearing ruins it at all. It feels raw and hurt, which I think is exactly what he was going for, and I love the line "fuck you, fuck you, love you" so much--that wouldn't be there without the profanity. This song, and that line in particular, just sum up a love/hate relationship so perfectly. Damien Rice is amazing. |
