"At the Sydney show in july this year, before they played this, Maynard said something like this song is about the vampires that you come across in your life, who try to get you down. Hence the use of "giving blood" in the lyrics. It could be to do with the record companies and the industry."
Whoa, Maynard actually said something? I've seen them three times, two times he said literally nothing and another it was just like a few sporadic words.
But yeah, I kinda get the whole people try to feed off of what you do, and shit can be real hard, but he just wants to keep trudging on for whatever outcome is in store. |

Cee-lo and Dangermouse have both said in interviews that St. Elsewhere is just a conceptual idea of a place that is better than your current state. So it has nothing to do with a mental institution, or Christianity. This is a really good song though, and I think it can apply to more than just a girl, seems like it could be applied to many of life's problems. |

Oh yeah, PS, I'm not sure, but I've heard that Purple Haze wasn't around when he wrote this song. Also, the moron above me who said Purple Haze is rare or going extinct or whatever it was and you needed to be loaded to smoke it, you obviously live in a pretty crappy town as far as weed goes. Granted it's more expensive than typical indoor because it's far better, it isn't that damn hard to find, just gotta go to a real city. I mean, it's synthetically generated, how can it be hard to find. |

Haha, some people here are so stupid. First they want to talk about all these drugs like they are knowledgeable but then go on to say things like "Jimi did LSD and other acid." Fools, LSD and acid are the same thing, there is only one kind of acid, and that's LSD (Lysergic acid Diethylamide). It is closely related the drug psilocybin that is contained in mushrooms, which is why then trips are so similar, but they are not the same thing. So please, don't come on here with information that you think is relevant when it isn't even correct. As far as the song goes, I'm pretty sure he's said himself that the song is about a dream. Also, why do people think I need to be 40+ to love Hendrix. Not my fault I wasn't born that long ago, but I can still respect and enjoy his music. I also respect and enjoy his drug habits (not all, heroin = no thank you) but entheogens are extremely positive drugs if understood and used properly, so please stop spouting lies that Hendrix didn't do drugs because you feel the fact that he did makes him a bad person. |

Live version of this song = far superior. More emotion. Lyrics are not exactly the same, especially the order, and I find it more fitting. Definitely a tight song though. |
