Our Lady Peace – Right Behind You (Mafia) Lyrics 18 years ago
Actually the whole story that unspokynpoet mentioned about the record label being too controlling totally makes sense.

"Confrontation like a mirror they try to take your mind away." - the label execs are in the studio with OLP while they're writing/recording and are trying to tell them what to do and what not to do.

And the chorus "No matter what you say/do I'm always right there behind you" seems to be coming from the perspective of the label... saying to OLP- you guys can complain all you want to us but it's not going to stop us from watching your every move and making sure it gets done the way we think it should get done.

Anyway... it definitely can apply to any interpretation, but keeping in mind that Raine wrote it about that specific scenario makes the most sense to me.

Our Lady Peace – If You Believe Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with the consensus and it's definitely about someone who has given up on their life and has either found a new way of living or some other meaning to live for- whether it be something as deep as huge as religion, or music, or painting, or whatever.

A slight correction in the lyrics though, the 2nd line of the chorus is "If you belong in the world I saw" instead of "believe."

amazing song.

Rx Bandits – A Mouth Full of Hollow Threats Lyrics 19 years ago
Amen to that Skepsis, I think you're dead on. "Until the power of love can exceed the love of power" -- gave me chills when I first heard that line. He definitely is directing this song at President Bush and all the other corrupt government officials who use the "best interest of the people" as a front for all their evil doings.

Rx Bandits – Only For the Night Lyrics 19 years ago
I definitely think he's using the girl metaphor for the drugs, too. It's very obvious throughout many RXB songs that Matt has a heroin addiction. He's such a level-headed guy and he KNOWS he's addicted, he knows it's wrong, but he's been fighting with it for so long. I wonder how many times he's actually said the line "I swear this is the last time I'll tie it" to himself, and then keeps on going with the addiction, unable to break it.

Matt is the most amazing lyricist... this heroin addiction can be seen prominently in this song as well as Infection, Taking Chase as the Serpent Slithers, and others.

The Matches – The Barber's Unhappiness Lyrics 19 years ago
my favorite lines are:

"there's comfort in the clamor of cafes
solace from the abyss of days"

that line is so soothing to me, because i know exactly how that feels. when you just feel so alone and detached from the world, especially when it's the result of a failing relationship which is emminent in this song, keeping yourself surrounded by people, including in just general public places, can calm you and give you a sense of comfort.

this has to be the most well-written song that shawn has done to date. it completely exceeds the level of the rest of this album, which is already amazing.
