this song is my favorite song of all time..its so straight forward but so beautiful at the same time. i love how the song goes from a near insult to the women to genuine sadness over losing her. others have stated that the song is about a middle aged women who is trying to bring fun back into her life. but did anyone think of the man in this situation? it seems like both parties are looking back at their teenage years with affection and at the same time remorse because they both cannot seem to get back to that blissful stage of love. they have become serious and boring. at the end of the song the man sees the relationship deteorating and how he is losing the girl "you took a left off last laugh lane" she gave up and cheated on him it seems and now he knows that no matter what she isnt coming back whether he wants her to or not..such a bitter sweet song but its so great!! |

i actually believe that this song is meant to have two meanings. one is of course about how war and terrorism etc, are threatening to end the world and how many people are living in fear because of it. however, the more romantic side of it all is that while this is all present in the song the exact same meaning to the song gets applied to the persona of Lola. the singer in the song is in love with someone (lola) and he wishes to be in a mature relationship with her (we all need to feel secure) but at the same time that he is wanting to take the relationship the next step he begins to have doubts about it all. he is ready for the relationship but he is wondering if lola is to. he seems to be scared that the people aroind them are acting to ruin their relationship. this is why he asks if she is afraid. it kind of seems as though its a sort of romeo and juliet story hapenning here. two people who love each other but seem to be torn apart because of something or someone..wonderful song though |

there for sure is a love triangle going on in this song..however the singer of the song is the one who decides to back down and avoid any more conflict..he does this not only for the girl who he likes but for himself aswell in order to simplify his life..however he leaves the relationship confused and almost depressed..which causes him to think deeply about what he wants out of love etc.. i have to admit as depressing as this song can make someone it lifts my spirits when times are bad for me..it kinda gets my frustration out and lets me think in the process..it leaves me feeling hopeful..anyone feel the same way? |

| i know that most people think of this song as someone who is leaving a messed up relationship but has anyone ever thought if it was about the guy trying to leave his past behind him? like i see it as his life has gotten to the point where he has to change how its going or he is going to lose himself. he is fed up because of both internal forces and external forces. this is why the images of driving fast and drowning come into play. he is "driving" fast to get rid of his problems and leave that life behind but at the same time he is too intertwined in it all to get out hence the lyrics "im not drowning fast enough" which points to him just giving up.. the line "the room is on fire as she's fixing her hair" creates a very powerful and opressive image that suggests that he cant take it anymore as his life is affecting him even while at the most basic levels..just to clarify i am not talking about him taking drugs and stuff just life in general being bad for him ie: he has made mistakes, friends turned on him etc.. hopefully that makes sense lol | |

i think this song is a good way to end the album..the entire album seems to go through to process of someone getting into a wild relationship (You only live once, Juicebox) then to the point when the relationship hits a rocky patch and he begins to have doubts about the whole thing (heart in a cage, Razor Blade) then realizing that the relationship issues are steming from himself and not the other person and going into a sort of depression and self examination because of it (On the Other Side). Vision of Division strikes me as a the time in the relationship when he is just completely fed up and is looking for little excuses to break things off (him not standing her friends) Ask Me Anything relates to him realizing his errors and wanting to change but not being able to find the words, or the proper way to do it. Electricityscape is when he is realizes that while the relationship is still salvageable the two lovers have now grown worlds apart, "i know you belong on the radio" in this song he realizes her worth and decides to save the relationship. i believe that killing lies is the result of his trying to mend the situation. he has now realized the flaws in the relationship but because of the way he acted earlier she does not want to cooperate resulting in the eventual break up..however now he has begun to mature and the song ends on a hopeful note as he still sees her as a friend. Fear of Sleep and 15 minutes i think both deal with his paranoia and the stress in his life and his need to put the past behind him even though it keeps coming back into his life. Ize of the World is the real turning point in the cd as it shows how much sould searching he has done. showing a more mature side to him.it is the climax of the cd and it is the point where he begins to search for the meaning of his life " how do you wake someone up from inside a dream" the first set of Ize words show what he must change about his life while the second set mark his realization that the world in general needs to mature and change from the way it is currently acting.. Red Light is the last song and one of the best as it puts together everything from the album. he has now found someone new and instead of getting into a crazy and wild relationship like he did previously he chooses to look past her looks and sees the real person..he for the first time chooses to enter into a real relationship of respect and love etc..marking that he has truly matured hence the upbeat tempo of the song well i think i have blabbered enough this was just my interpretation of the cd i would like to hear what you guys think about my ideas...just be nice :) |

| ok so does anyone else love the solo to this amazing song..i feel that it contributes to the overall meaning of the song just as much as the lyrics themselves do..the song kinda seems to talk about someones views of the world and how frustrated the person is. i strokes makes you kinda go through the emotion of being frustrated, you know that feeling of how you feel no one understands you and you kinda feel like banging your head against a wall..i guess i rambled a bit but hopefully you guys get my point :) | |
